Damn that's cheap for that performance level! A lot to pay for an American car for sure.

It's actually great that the Supra is still in development while all these great cars hit the market. Something to benchmark and price properly against should mean the car will as good if not better.
Yeah I agree. This is going to be Toyota's flagship car, and they're going to want it to be taken seriously. I don't think the MkV Supra is going to compete with the Z06 or the GT500, but it should be head and shoulders above stuff like the Z51 Corvette, Gt350, BMW M4. The quality of the competition is only going to improve the final product Toyota gives us.

GT350 will beat the Supra on power but Supra will beat GT350 on weight and dynamics. Styling remains to be seen but I think most of us here are gonna say it's the Supra that takes it.

This is going to be an interesting dogfight!

Think so? I dont know. I don't think it is out of the question for the MKV supra turbo to come with 500+ horses. There's no question about weight to,the mustang is a porker.

Why not 500+? The RCF already makes almost 470hp!

After seeing the announcement that Ford would be creating a Hybrid Mustang, I started doing a little investigating to try to find some details.

From what I read, v8 like power with more torque and MPG higher than their current eco boost offering (21 mpg in eco boost). I'm assuming the mpg will be 25-30 city.

Is anyone intrigued by the possibilities here? Based on what I'm reading it should be more affordable than the Supra.

Part of me feels as though the Supra is entering the market way too late with what it's offering in terms of power train.

Isn't it always with American cars. Cheap as dirt compared to EDM and JDM, but less finesse, bigger bore, and enough safety technology for the POTUS to ride in.
But I'm interested to see how Ford is gonna get a V-8 to run 25 mpg.
And you're right. The Supra should have been released just after the 6th-gen Camaro, or even just before the 6th-gen facelift Mustang.

I agree.
The American sports cars fight mostly through their power and torque (no offense to the Big Three). Not so much finesse.
They do look like angry ponies, but the Supra beats them up at that.
I think the Stingray C7 will also be an interesting duelist, and maybe an SS 1LE.

NTITOI, the Camaro SS 1LE is probably best, because TT I-6 vs V-8, similar bhp and lb-ft figures, handling, weight, price, etc.

No not a v8, likely they will hybridize their ecoboost 4 cylinder. At least 30 mpg city is what I'd expect.

Better it be a V-6. American sports cars are about big-bore torque, and I wouldn't imagine a Mustang without one.
Still, like the idea.

Iā€™m not exactly sure.. if this new Supra will out handle a GT350 or have the go power.

Outhandling a GT350? Likely. Price range is a bit out of its league, though. Still nowhere near the power. My estimate put the stock Supra Turbo at 360 or so, and the Shelby has 526.
Although a C7 GS would be a nice comparison. 100 up on horsepower, but better at handling.
Did anyone read the September 2017 copy of C&D? It put a Charger Pursuit against a GTI Performance. The GTI beat the Charger on corners, but lost distance in the straights. That would be a close similarity.

Have you driven a GT350?

New Supra maybe a good driving car.. but I really doubt itā€™ll even come close to a GT350. Letā€™s see what comes out in the next few months.

Check out this link to have an idea of the A90 Toyota Supra vs. competition: https://www.motoring.com.au/toyota-supra-vs-ford-mustang-111475/

The Ford Mustang could be the closest competitor of the Toyota Supra. But itā€™s more like Ford Mustang 2.3-litre EcoBoost I4 vs. Toyota Supra 3.0-litre I6. The facelifted Mustang 2.3-litre EcoBoost is offered with 224kw/441Nm vs. Toya Supra 3.0-litreā€™s 250kW/450Nm. This sound like a close fight. The Supra has 2 more cylinders, bigger displacement, has more power and torque, and lighter. The Mustang 5.0-litre V8 GT variant is in another category as it offers 339kW/556Nm, while the 2.0-litre Supra is rumored to offer around 190kW/400Nm, which is also in another category.

New 5.0L Stang will be too fast for most probably any variation of the new Supra. Just three little mods and the 5 liter will throw down over 500 at the wheel.

Around a turn.. maybe a different story. Letā€™s see how the Supra pans out.
