That is a beautiful rendering! Honestly, if Nissan can pull this off under $50k, they should consider doing the same with the GTR. Make a $75k GTR without all the fancy interior stuff. Would sell like hotcakes.
Then it's not a GTR. It'll can only go up from there, not down; like the V Spec, M Spec, Nur Spec, NISMO R34's. Anything less would be GT, GT-X, GT-T's which is currently on V35/V36 level.

Alot of people (myself included) love the R34 for its simple interior. Nothing fancy really, even for 90’s era. The 300ZX had a much nicer interior than an R34 GTR. I don’t think they need to downgrade the badge to a GT-S or GT-T, they just need to not go in the direction of trying to compete with Pagani with diamond stitched seats and headliners hehe. Give it a “simpler” interior but keep the performance goodies. The R35 is expensive, but alot of that cost is with the interior.

Who knows, maybe a retro GTR may come back with this new team.

I hear ya, forget the alcantara, the two-tone leather, the CF and trying to make it into a luxury GT model. The thing is, this car had to check those boxes in order to come to the U.S. U.S consumers want the unnecessary goods and they want it all. This is the reason why a F-250 King Ranch is Ram TRX Hellcats exist. The R34 was a simplied platform with just the right options, just like the Z32, MKIV Supra, the NA1 NSX and the rest of the 90's legends.

They are definitely going in the right direction with the Z though.

A Hakosuka/R34 creation...with a modern twist. Kind of like what they did with the “400Z.” They took cues from a 240Z/300ZX but gave it a modern twist.

I just hope they don’t discontinue the GTR brand.

BTW, the Z has a button on the pillar that unlatches the door. Then you grab the static handle below to pull it open. It seems to be a two step process. Not sure if that's good.

Now that we got the Z proto, can we get a Silvia proto pretty please?
^^ THIS. Extremely long overdue. Where is Nissan's performance 2+2 coupe driven at the rear wheels that isn't a $100k++ R35 GTR? And it needs a manual transmission as well, please.

That said I'm very glad they have given the Z another generation done properly. That alone is amazing.

I really wish Nissan would make another S chassis, although at one point Nissan was losing money on each 240sx they sold... I've spent a considerable amount of time restoring my S14. I'm glad to see the light bar design element is making a comeback!

^^ Beautiful S14!!

I remember when these were new in the showrooms in 1997 and 1998. I saw one that was a display model at my local dealer. I loved it visually but even at that time I knew it was missing the Silvia variant’s 2.0L SR20DET and better manual trans. And this dealer wanted $28k USD in 1998 money.

I loved and still love the 240SX’s but I felt $28k was quite a bit too much for it only having 155hp NA when Nissan had a 200hp turbo engine for the car that they refused to include here.

I’m amazed they still lost money on each 240SX they sold considering the features they didn’t include for the U.S. And it’s such a good car that it really is a shame it never got the SR engine.

It’s all old history now though. Keep going with your S14! It’s looking great!!

Thank you for the kind words! This car is my forever car, alongside my BRZ. I tried to make the car as close to a stock JDM Silvia as possible, similar to what you've done with your SC/Soarer project (big fan). The SR20 really wakes the car up; I can only imagine how this car would have competed in the US market with that drive train combo. I really feel like it was a missed opportunity on Nissan's end as I am still blown away at what a stock SR20DET with stock boost can do for this car, despite the age.

I guess having a bunch of bespoke platforms in Nissan's lineup at the time did not help with cost cutting, hence the more streamlined lineup offered during the Ghosn era.

I think it's waayyy too early to say if the new 400z Proto is better than the MKV. But, for now the public opinion around the reveal is far more positive than when the MKV was revealing.
