I created this thread and I know there are many threads like this about various issues. This is my experience. I did not document the fix and issues but happy to help those that are nervous and having the same issues as I am having.
I have got the car to be 95% perfect. In fact on a typical 300Km drive on various surfaces B roads and freeways with Course chip and plenty of lumps and bumps I have near to zero noises from having a creak or rattle on any surface.
Also the sound system sounds so much better as well, so I will try explain the fixes that I did with that.
I also want to say - I am not good mechanically and by no means an expert in this. Although with all my cars I have had some minor issues with interior quality. This one is the worse. If it were a BMW it would not be perfect but Toyota has definitely made it worse in the dashboard and trim designs.
They say its a BMW interior - no it uses BMW switches and screens buttons etc with Toyota trim parts - I wish it had a BMW interior.
Take all the panels off strip it bear. apply sound deadener on all metal surfaces that seems hollow when you tap on it.
Everything comes apart really easily. Make sure that you buy some spare clips as I broke a few.
I got some speaker wadding material and shoved it in all the open spaces to dull any vibration and sounds.
I applied thin 6mm foam tape on the inside of all the plastic parts and clips.
The large centre mount carpeted piece that sits over the two woofers was removed and on the underside I applied sound deadening foam material as well as foam tape over the metal clips that secure it as these metal clips creak when locked into the plastic counterparts. I sound deadened the woofer plastic boxes and placed speaker wadding in the metal tube below it to deaden the reflective sounds. The lower plastic carpeted portion also had some sound deadening and foam tape over the metal clips before it was reinserted. Some have made ports to release the pressure and claim to improve the sound dramatically. i did this originally with a piece of foam to experiment, however I prefer the way it sounds now without any rattles and OEM. I can turn the volume to max and the only equaliser setting change is the bass is maybe +2 the sound system is superb at any volume, its clear, low deep and tight bass without any distortion whatsoever.
I purchased self adhesive thick rubber padding and stuck it on top of the woofer housing before refitting the top moulded carpet piece this seals the sound and diverts it out the top. There was a poorly flattened sponge used by the manufacturer not creating a proper seal.
Popping off the doors is a piece of cake. Yes i had the door pin rattle. i placed sound deadener on the various portions of the door inner side of the door panel and some thick sticky sponge behind the door pin rod. I stiffened the speaker housing and used more sealant rubber tape around there. the doors feel more solid and have zero noise.
I also removed the aluminium brace and filled it with foam before re-securing it.
Now the centre console and Dash board. If I push on the fake carbon fibre used on the centre console it creaks the black plastic on the side of the console creaks and the soft rubber dash piece running along the centre with the 8button custom buttons creaks when you push on it. This part makes me nervous. I wonder if anyone has taken all this apart. I have not touched it yet?
Anyone taken this apart and can prompt me in the right direction? I a have a feeling it uses the same metal clips arrangement that the rear section uses and it just needs some foam tape over the metal parts.
Mine creaks when going over uneven surfaces otherwise it doesn't really make a noise when driving. But if I can perfect it I prefer to do so.
Sorry I do not have detailed pictures of the entire job. When doing it I did not even know if it would work but sofar everything Ive done was worth it and is now 100% fixed.
I would be happy to help anyone and guide them, but was hoping someone can please write or explain how to take the centre console and front dash piece apart?
