I thought ASD only made noise when you switched it to Sport mode.

However, I turned it off via bimmercode and it’s even quiter in the cabin now in comfort mode. And I hear the engine better.

Was the ASD on even during comfort mode?

from my experience with bimmercode with bmw's it shouldn't. if there is a cel turning the car off all the way then back on fixes the issue otherwise reverting from backup takes u back to default factory settings

Can u show how to find this plug please. Has unplugging caused any problems downline. Thanjs
I currently dont own this car anymore. So no visible codes were thrown but when i took the car in for service they had to plug it back in due to some warranty work i was having done and there computer threw a code. It doesnt harm the car by unplugging it through. If you msg @tadda He has a thread here somewhere on how to do it in detail.

It's on speakers because they tend to make cars more soundproof now so they want to give the engine sound in the car. Lots of cars do it
Sound insulation is part of the story but the main issue is due to the ever increasing restrictions of the petrol particulate filters that drastically reduce and mute out much of the raw engine sounds. Most modern cars these days sound like tired vacuum cleaners with all the sound deadening going on as they struggle to pass the air through filters that attempt to take out the HCs, NOx, CO and other compounds down to levels that mean Bambi and polar bears can suck on those exhausts all day long and feel fantastic.
It will get worse as each new generation of car is released under ever more strict tree-hugging 'green' rules. 2018 saw a big jump in the restrictions but they started to come in at around 2009.
I am guessing the green lawmakers will push the restrictions tighter and tighter to a point whereby a petrol ICE can not operate, therefore forcing the hand of manufacturers to only produce electric milk float vehicles. Then its welcome to the green sterile future where even a fart can land you in jail.
