  1. Is a manual transmission in the cards for the new Supra?

If they are serious about the GRMN version they should easily beat that. Toyota/GR, this is your chance to redeem yourself or disappoint the car world a second time.
  2. Toyota has really exposed the BMW "tax": Supra vs Z4 Pricing

It doesn't really matter, market behavior is not always objective or rational. When a company borrows technology from a competitor, the end product will almost always be perceived as less valuable. That's why in this case people will tend to pay more for the Z4. There are dozens of examples...
  3. Analysis, Comments & Reactions from the Web about the new Supra

What makes you think the A90 will become a "track legend" and has an awesome chassis without any data/evidence? Maybe I'm missing something, but all we have seen so far were "meh" reviews in Spain, the Gazoo A90 race car trailing the field in VLN and a laptime in a japanese magazine that put it...
  4. Toyota has really exposed the BMW "tax": Supra vs Z4 Pricing

The steering wheel, HVAC control unit, audio panel, infotainment system, Idrive controls seem to be from the old BMW f30 3 series. That is just the visible part on the interior, surely there's more behind the panels to support these systems. I understand that some people don't care, because...
  5. Toyota has really exposed the BMW "tax": Supra vs Z4 Pricing

Z4 is the original, Supra is "fake". Inhouse development vs. badge engineering justifies a big price difference Z4 has latest BMW tech while the Supra uses a lot of older and cheaper BMW parts. New technology and additional R&D effort add value to the product and justifiy a certain price...
  6. Analysis, Comments & Reactions from the Web about the new Supra

That would be almost as bad as them just trying to save money and lying about their own calibration. If this BMW engine hasn't met Toyotas reliability standards at power levels >335hp/500Nm, it implies this car has very limited reliable tuning potential.
  7. Analysis, Comments & Reactions from the Web about the new Supra

That's something I'm curious to know as well. So far, we know they.. - Quality checked BMW parts - Helped tuning the suspension - Did their own engine tuning, even though specs are the same as a 2015 340i. - Sent their design requirements for the Supra interior and exterior to BMW - Found out...
  8. Analysis, Comments & Reactions from the Web about the new Supra

Yes. Shockingly, contract manufacturers usually produce lower quality than OEM plants. Reasons: lower wages, lower skilled employees/workers, lots of temporary staff, no brand affiliation, dissatisfaction, complex hierachy, line of communication & problem solving processes,... So out of a few...
  9. Analysis, Comments & Reactions from the Web about the new Supra

I for one was really disappointed about the lack of Toyotas involvment. Instead of a balanced job split between Toyota and BMW, the end product is 99% BMW tech, assembled on a third party line (which will be even worse than a BMW plant in regards to build quality). People really shouldn't defend...
  10. A90 Supra engines and parts diagrams (all) revealed!

BMW part number/logo means lead design/engineering & responsibility = BMW.
  11. A90 Supra engines and parts diagrams (all) revealed!

Most people expected BMW logos on engine components, but they are literally everywhere. In a joint development, you would expect either components from both companies, or shared components with different logos for each manufacturer.
  12. Shoulda just used the V35A-FTS from the LS500

Which parts in this car have a Toyota part number? Ahaha.... So you are telling me they had focus groups <2012, before they even started the project with BMW? Just connect the dots, instead of repeating Toyota PR talk.
  13. Analysis, Comments & Reactions from the Web about the new Supra

This has to be the most controversial car release since the premiere of the 1999 Fiat Multipla. I wonder how Toyota feels dealing with all the negative feedback.
  14. Shoulda just used the V35A-FTS from the LS500

LMAO. Let me ask you something: When did Toyota/BMW announce their partnership? Before or after Toyota claimed their "focus groups" insist on a inline 6? It's exactly the same story with the manual transmission. Long after BMW decided there will be no manual transmission on this platform...
  15. Supra reliability with a BMW drivetrain

Toyota probably tested many BMW parts, and they all failed. The end.
  16. Shoulda just used the V35A-FTS from the LS500

Yes, they should have used the V6-TT in a new Supra. But remember, these cars were developed by BMW, not Toyota. BMW would never put a Lexus engine in their Z4/Supra.
  17. Guesses on CHP? Is Toyota Sandbagging? (Is the Supra faster than they say?)

That's exactly the question I asked myself yesterday. If Toyota did their own engine tuning, what the hell were they doing? Honestly the story about them splitting up is BS. I kinda believe the BMW side of the story: Toyota ordered a sports car from them and they delivered. It makes...
  18. Our LIVE 2020 Supra Coverage and Interviews From Detroit Auto Show!

You have to keep in mind that simply testing parts doesn't improve anything. Sure, Toyota might have checked thousands of BMW parts in Japan and sent their feedback back to Germany. That does't mean there were any improvements made by the lead developers (BMW). Engineers often ignore feedback...
  19. Our LIVE 2020 Supra Coverage and Interviews From Detroit Auto Show!

I'd agree if Toyota has/had any significant role in the Z4/Supra project, but BMW is basically responsible for everything. Engineering, quality, supplier choice, production, testing, ... so Toyota will have little to no impact on anything.
  20. Our LIVE 2020 Supra Coverage and Interviews From Detroit Auto Show!

Agree, but that means they will be even more cautious dealing with all that BMW tech. My guess is the MKV will still have 335hp when they cease production in a few years.
