I think a huge part of the appeal is the satisfaction in the "DIY aspect" alone. I'll avoid using the word "engagement" so Danny isn't triggered... LOL. Naturally there's no risk of a money-shift with the auto... but there's also no sense of satisfaction in hitting that perfect rev matched...
Agreed. One of the biggest advantages (for me personally at least) with a manual gearbox is actually the opposite of "performance minded" ultimately. I find that with a manual I crave more power far less, because the engagement is so high.
With an automatic I find I'm constantly...
Aside from permanent modification and/or removal of the shield? Drive on cleaner roads? :p
Honestly if it keeps happening you might consider modification, but in my case it only happened early on. Don't know if I've just had a lucky year since then or if I bent it "just right" the last time.
Likely a small rock between the heatshield and the rotor... happened to me a couple times early on - then luckily never since. First time I drove "creatively" (hard brake, reverse fast, hard brake, forward, etc.) and dropped it... the second time I just poked at the dust shield with a...
At least you ordered the correct color... ;)
It's pretty amazing (and shocking) that in an age where every large department store can track every move you make via your smartphone, and where drones are soon going to deliver pizza and parcels... a company with $30B in revenue doesn't even "have...
I feel similarly... honestly whether it's a "car flick" or a racing sim/game - if there's a Skyline in it... the Supra just kinda becomes invisible to me (including the MKIV). On the other hand, when it came time to replace the RC-F... while a used R35 would have certainly been attainable -...
Which color is it? Because unless it's molten pearl, I'm going to guess @H2O_Doc is correct in his assertion. My RC-F was Ultra White and I probably only had 5-6 comments on it during the whole 3 years I owned it. I got no comments at all on the Cayman (Agate Grey) but that one was a lemon...
All of my drive-thru experiences have been positive... from the guy in front of me getting out of his minivan to take a selfie with it, to dozens of positive comments at the window.
Funniest one was my local Jack drive-thru... guy didn't say anything for about 20 seconds - then just said "That...
Virtually guaranteed to not be the case... for a variety of reasons:
Being an unmitigated asshole to strangers only really got popular with the advent of social media (forums and BBSes being the precursor). The behavior, naturally, has been around forever - but people used to have a bit of...
One for the single radio station I ever listen to, one for tires, one for oil, one for trip computer... the others are a bit too far away for an easy reach to matter - simpler to just use the controller for the rest IMO.
It looks just like a miniature (and budget) version of the RC-F I had. I think I would have preferred it actually - especially at <40% of the MSRP. Doubt many others would feel that way however. I certainly didn't until I'd owned it for a few months. ;)
Too bad you didn't have an analysis done of that... would have been interesting to see what the actual composition of the debris was (i.e. which metals were involved, what was sealant/gasket material, etc.).
I tried to do an analysis on my first change but the dealership "forgot" to pull any...
Am I the only one that's a bit sad they're not actually doing that? ;)
I've already got my MKV... and I know my wife would jump at the opportunity to trade our disappointing (to say the least) RX350 for a X7 M50i... especially if the BMW premium was reduced like the Z4->MKV is... if it were...
I think you definitely don't have the issue. If you're tracking it that hard and only need 1.5qt in 6K miles... you're golden. Heck, probably have ~15% of that amount coating your charge pipe (or in the catch can if you use one). :p
Many people are burning that much with just regular driving...
Yeah, pay-walled whitepapers are the bane of my existence (don't care as much about automotive engineering... but I sure wish the membership to AES was a bit cheaper).
To the other point... that's the real issue - even where there is empirical data (and available directly without surrogates)...

Not my taste, but it's a wrap... so why not? If you decide you don't like it later - you take it off... it's just money. ;)
With how often some people swap wheels... a 1-2 year wrap is dirt cheap by comparison. I would recommend PPF on all the white areas however... so they're just as...
Well, considering the interior of my past G's and Z's - it won't be that much of a letdown for most and expected for many. If they just manage to improve the seats, honestly I don't mind - at least they've used good plastic (i.e. it doesn't crack and fade super quickly).
If they really are...
Plus they're cast wheels so possibly not as durable either. Some are fine, others crack pretty easily - especially at this price point IMO. I'd say a downgrade in multiple ways. ESR has forged options (although most are unappealing to me aesthetically speaking, but that's subjective)...
