Nah, I understand what you were getting at, just poking fun.

As for the cars, I cant elaborate further unfortunatey, but remember that aesthetic items are half the car. That impacts things more than one may think.

The SC300 and mkiv share the exact same chassis and fairly similar drivetrains and yet they are completely different cars in every way. The z20 Soarer and A70 supra are the same way.

Ah ok.

Sure I understand, but was this kind of a confirmation? ;)

B58 sounds pretty meh lol
I would expect the coupe to be more lighter and rigid vs the roadster. I was going say the SC300 and NA Supra were pretty similar to me. Sure one was slightly bigger/heavier, and more comfortable/luxurious while the other was more compact and sportier. But it wasn't night and day differences in my book.

Here is how the LS500 sounds for comparison. Starting at around 15:40 mark.

I think the only drawback with a Toyota motor would be an auto only. At least with a BMW motor there is a chance for different tranny options.

lol @people psyching themselves out..

Lexus will now allow Toyota to have their flagship 3.5L, especially just being released and only available in the LS. If you knew how Lexus and Toyota get along and how their command structures work, this is completely incompatible thinking.

The J29 has a BMW motor, that much is 100% true. It is also super evident from the Ring videos: same exhaust note (albeit louder) and same shifting points/sound.

The Z4 finally reveals its production-bound lights! Both the headlights and tail lights stay reasonably faithful to the lights seen on the Z4 Concept. The tail lights especially are very future looking as a mix of Z4 Concept and i8 tail lights.

I'm guessing this this mean both cars are in their final stages of development? Now they just need to hurry up and drop more camo!

sure looks like it and would echo the engineers telling me the car was for all intents and purposes complete aside from options.

The top model of the upcoming BMW Z4 lineup might be offered in two configurations. The 2018 BMW Z4 M40i – codename G29 – is currently being tested with two engine configurations. The B58M1 3.0 liter six-cylinder engine is under the hood of one Z4 M40i making 335 horsepower. A second engine – B5801 – with the same displacement is being used in a second M40i with a total output of 385 horsepower.

At first glance, the different in power output seems to depend on the emissions standards – the higher power version is being built for the countries without EU emissions regulations, including the US. The move will be quite unusual for BMW which historically has tried to be consistent across different markets, with a few changes, especially related to diesel engines.

Furthermore, it is not also the first time that BMW is testing different engine configurations before settling on the production unit, so at this time, we can’t state with certitude that the Z4 M40i will be offered with two different power options.

We’ve also learned a while back that there won’t be a new Z4 M, so that rules out the possibility of a higher power output being used in the M model.

But if we were to bet on something it would be a Competition Package being offered for the Z4 M40i which will explain the additional horsepower and likely more torque.

What we do know for sure is that the Z4 will be powered by four and six-cylinder engines. The base model is the Z4 sDrive20i, powered by a 2.0 liter four-cylinder unit rated at 194 horsepower and 200 lb-ft of torque. The sDrive30i features the same engine with 248 hp and 258 lb-ft.

Edited: Bimmerpost members said the above is true and the US will only receive the more powerful version of the B58.

For the US market I hope Toyota doesn't bring over any form of a 4 cyl. Have the base model with the B58M1 and the higher output model with the B5801.

@A70TTR guessed in the 380hp range.
folks generally only hear what they want to hear.

most of the comments I make are just parroting what the chief engineer and his assistant were telling me lol. oh well...
