I was reading the manual and it sounds like an adapter is needed to remove the wheels or did I misread that? Is the adapter supposed to be back by the tool kit?

Only if you have wheel locks installed (one per wheel).

Any idea if that's a dealer extra? Should I see that on the window sticker?
It is an extra, should be on the window sticker if you have it

The socket for wheel locks is usually called the key. The locks are easily identifiable.

Unsure what an adapter is.

If it's a port installed option it will be on the sticker (and you'll probably pay too much). Otherwise it can be installed by the dealer (more or less $$, who knows) or you can order the parts online and do it yourself for the lowest cost. It's an easy install.
