Cool video. What are you using to pull data from car?

I have an HPTuners MVPI2 and Track Addict Software. It's not really the best solution for our cars as it doesn't support any of the enhanced BMW OBDII PIDS or CAN BUS IDS. I have it primarily for my GM and Ford cars for which it is an outstanding solution.

I have several friends that use the Race Capture/Track MK2 and Race Capture/Pro MK3. If you're looking for a high speed data logger that's the route I'd recommend.

Can you explain this a little further? I was just about to buy track addict, a external GPS ($160!), OBDII Bluetooth plug in.... Is that not a good idea for the supra?

I have an HPTuners MVPI 2 with is a full featured flash programming adapter used with HPtuners Software (primarily for my GM and Ford cars). Since Track Addict is an HPtuners software product, the two work very well together for around 10Hz OBDII scan rate over bluetooth (only supported on android devices).

I also have an OBDLinkMX+ Bluetooth OBDII device. Although it is compatible with TrackAddict, the scan rate is very low (approximately 2Hz).

I you want a really good solution for fast scan rate for OBDII and GPS, I would go with the RaceCapture Track MK2. It works very well by itself for "Big Track". If you need an autocross solution, I would recommend the SoloStorm/RaceCapture Track MK2 bundle.

ahh interesting. I’ve been reading up on track addict over the last week, and one thing that has not come up is OBDII scan rate. Definitely makes sense. I only have IOS so I’m going to give track addict a shot with XGPS160 and veepeak obd device. I really want the video, and sounds like I’d have to pay another 200 for the SoloStorm software and an android device

Yeah... I get video and gps from a GoPro Hero 6 with and external suction cup mount on the top section of the windshield.

My setup is entirely pieced together from various stuff I already had. If I was putting together a solution from scratch, I definitely use the RaceCapture system. High resolution data capture with CAN support and integrated camera control for the GoPro. Both the telemetry data and video data would have high resolution GPS data. That would make synchronizing the data in RaceRender incredibly easy.

Yeah, the RaceCapture device is a bit $$$$, but it's well worth it if your starting from scratch.

I was watching some videos on it... sounds cools, but past my level of understanding. What exactly is the CAN support? Also do you know how RaceCapture gets info like tire temperature and brake temperature? Some sort of algorithm?

Without getting technical, CAN and OBDII are different communication protocols. CAN is the protocol used by all of the various controllers throughout the car to communicate with each other. OBDII is purely a diagnostic protocol.

By being on the CAN Bus, the data collectors have access to all of the information that the systems share and at a much higher collection rate.

Tire Surface Temps and Brake Rotor Temps for the supra are only available as "add on" sensors for the RaceCapture hardware. I believe that they are IR camera sensors.

Thanks, that helps a lot. Would be cool to get steering and braking gauges too. I’ll give Track Addict a go since low cost, but will def keep my eye on RaceCapture

For Autocross I'm running Potenze RE-71R tires on OEM wheels. 285 up front, 305 in the rear
What tire pressures you running?? I used to run higher pressures (38-40) to prevent sidewall rollover in my subaru, but I've heard recently of people running pressures in the 20s...
