Hello, hope all are well. Does anyone have any idea why I would have this message? Car has little under 11k miles. Little back story, put drag radials on last week. Last Friday at the track, after a couple of burnouts, I noticed brakes were NOT working as good as they had in the past. They work fine at lower speeds, but when pushing the car, the peddle now feels stiffer and braking distance is increased.

Also, was gonna run out my flex fuel and just load 93 octane map to take to dealership. The brake recall is required in PA because it is a safety issue. So was gonna have both issues looked at. My car is 2020 and ECU was never locked. If I get locked out of it, with just DP, will car run fine till I have ECU unlocked?

Strangeā€¦ from what I recall most cars donā€™t require this fluid change until 50-60k.

Replacement interval is 36 months and/or 30,000 miles. Then every 24 months and/or 20,000 miles thereafter. This is straight from Toyota.

I wonder if you didn't cook some of the brake fluid to the point of noticeable performance degradation. Also, now wondering how the vehicle's systems would actually see something.

Simplest thing to check is your actual brake fluid level, if it's below minimum, add more.
Wouldn't exactly tell him if it needs replacing. Water in your brake fluid wouldn't be apparent.

My X3M required it after 3 years. Imo, brake fluid change isn't a cause for concern...you probably heated the fluid considerably and the car is warning you that it needs change.

Anyone know how if this brake fluid job can be done at home? Or does it require special tools?

~ Amazingly this was never a required service until 60,000 miles roughly 10 years ago.

I personally think all service recommendations have been moved to much lower mileage to push sales / profits for the dealers and manufactures.

However manufactures push 10,000 miles between oil changes when the dealer covers the cost under manufacture covered maintenance. Hmm

the answer is YES

foot off the gas
press the start button 3x
hold the odometer button for 5 seconds
up comes the screen to reset brake fluid. Doing it immediately adds two years to the timer.

I didn't say that. Most cars have low brake fluid sensors and it will trip a warning if it's low. That is why I stated that would be the simplest thing to check. All you need to do is pop the hood and remove one little plastic panel. No tools needed.

I'd assume that would be a different message though? Maybe it umbrella's it under a service but I'm not sure.
