Its worth a shot if your consuming too much oil. The part isn’t that expensive.

- Oil pressure valve assembly p/n 23950WAA01 (if excessively burning oil)

-Oil level sensor p/n 89491WAA01 (if cannot measure oil)

Yeah wondering if anyone has any success with this too. I'm surprised Toyota didn't experiment with replacing these parts before the alleged engine replacements I've been hearing about. Do we know if these parts were changed for the 2021 model year or are they the same as the 2020?

I could get these parts out of pocket installed in about three weeks (Supra tech is heavily booked up) but I wouldn't be able to get any of us the data needed for awhile because winter is coming here in the Midwest, it's unlikely I'll get enough miles until next year to say conclusively it made a difference to the consumption.

+ Anecdotally i haven't seen as much about Z4 oil consumption in BMW forums as I have GR Supras.
I spoke to a very reputable BMW specialist in this state who told me even for BMWs the B58 shouldn't be burning this much oil but he couldn't comment on the Z4/Supra specifically because he's not worked on any yet since these cars are still warrantied. Mine and his concern is where all this oil is going if it is indeed being burned... IE obvious carbon build up on higher mileage "oil burning" 2021 engines. Anyone here with high oil consumption gone over 15k miles yet?

Quick update on mine. Currently at 4500 miles total on car, 2000 miles on 5w-30. Car burnt 0 oil from 0-2500 miles on the stock water oil. About 1000 miles in on the 5w-30, it started bouncing between half and full. 1500-2000 miles in, it has been stuck at half. I am honestly thinking I filled it right to the border line of half/full when I did the oil change and its finally burnt that tiny bit of oil off to now keep it at the halfway point. Planning on running this oil for 5000 miles so still got plenty of time to see if its burning oil or was just at the tipping point. I will measure the oil level in a pan when the time comes to drain it.

Do you have an OBD 2 bluetooth dongle so you can get a more precise measurement?

I've had it happen twice in 3000 miles. Just poured more oil in. Car is running strong. I moved to WA from CA. Where I lived in CA it was 100+ every day, and I run the car hard. WA is much colder. I still run the car hard, and haven't had a warning here yet. I think changing the oil to something a little thicker will fix the issue, but I haven't changed my oil yet cause I'm lazy and it's not required, technically.

Damn, this thread is scary--at least the cylinder scoring portions are. Maybe I should wait to buy my 2022, to see if this issue has been fixed.

Nah bruh, just send it.
Agreed. With some exceptions, most of the people posting in this thread seem to be within the Toyota/BMW specs for oil consumption. If you're worried about it, using a heavier weight oil may be beneficial. There has been some anecdotal evidence indicating such.

The z4 guys are burning too. They just get better explanations from the bmw dealership or have prior bmw experience. Besides the oil burning, this car is reliable and takes extremely well to mods.

Anyone that’s burning oil should switch to 0w-30 at minimum. Rep at Toyota HQ says warranty is honored with that oil if that’s the concern.

Has BMW/Toyota issued any new information on the oil consumption issue? Have they identified anything as being the problem? Any idea of how widespread the issue is? Any idea if 2022s are having the same issues?

Yep issue way overblown. Down on oil after 3000miles or 4 or 5000 kilometers = you dont have an issue. Its a car, add, monitor and drive. Also many see less use as the motor wears in over time. Relax. Its a solid powerplant. Very.

Imma be honest like the other person asked/said and say that this whole thread had me freaking out as well. (I have a 2022 on order at a dealer in Connecticut that I'm going to have delivered to Texas.) I've been scouring the threads and web looking for information on the possibility of damage during shipping as well and found that you just start to read all the horror stories...........I guess I'm going to have to quit the internet for the rest of the year until I get the car, lol!

Also - apparently I'm not up on the "lingo" - what does "send it" mean? I'm assuming go ahead and buy it based on everyone's replies indicating that. (Apparently it's my age that prevents me from being hip and down with the sayings of the street, lmao!)
