06/20 build date. Low oil warning came on at 2500 miles today after I checked it manually. Just 300 miles ago it was showing 3/4 quart full...

Most of that mileage was canyon carving and having fun. I bought the car used with 250 miles on it, and did not follow the break in procedures, generally had fun with it and revved it tons.

Taking it to Toyota to top it off so its recorded.

Looks like you reached the “moment of truth” mileage. Feedback on here has indicated once you reach the 2500-3000 threshold its either smooth sailing or the dreaded dealership visits.

Keep us posted on what they say.

With all of us having brand new cars, I wish we didn’t need to have to check our oil level frequently as thats one of the reason why I even purchased a brand new car is not to have worry about anything. Lol ?

I'm currently at 4500 miles (7,300kms). I'm still riding the 3/4 low mark. (one green bar left) It's been like this for a quite a long time now. Either it's stabilised, or my dipstick has failed, and I'm running way below minimum oil. On a lighter note, I'm selling my 2014 3 series, and getting a 2019 Honda Civic SI coupe manual. Gonna beat the living sh*t out of it for a daily driver :)

Exactly when I got my FIRST warning...
Now right at 4000 mile and expecting my 3rd warning any day now?..
I will also go back to dealership for top up...but I already have a case open..

How do you drive your car? A LOT of the 2500 miles were spent on my local canyon roads and the car is generally at around 4000-7000 rpm for an hour +.

I drive in manual sport mode..
The first oil warning came at 2500..
I had done 1 track day so figured that was the reason..
The 2nd warning came on at 3200..
Limited track use...even with the track that's only 700 miles between oil warnings...that's more oil used then my old 86 911 which is air/ oiled cooled...
I now have just under 4000 with zero track time..at 3/4 low so I'll be getting another warning sometime soon...
Don't know if it's my driving style but under a 1000 miles per quart does seem right?

I last topped up my oil at about 4500 miles. It was on course to burn a quart every thousand miles.

From 4500-5700 miles, I've done about an hour of hard HPDE time at Virginia International Raceway, and had countless plumes of smoke out the exhaust just driving around... Oil level still full.

In all fairness, every BMW I've ever owned has consumed oil to some degree with hard driving. Especially my '99 M3 (never should have sold that car) and my 2003 525i. 1qt in 750ish miles would worry me, though.
Yeah but those are Older bmws. You figured by 2021, they could of improved their motors.......

Could have... but that doesn't seem to go too far these days with any company.

On the other hand - many of today's cars are feature rich, stupid fast, and dirt cheap (adjusted for inflation) compared to what was around 20-25 years ago. As to whether any of those "features" make driving more enjoyable is a topic of much debate however.

Just my $0.02, but I wouldn't necessarily consider a motor that consumes oil inferior to one that doesn't. It's just the way it is. Some cars come with certain fluids that need to be replaced or topped-up on differing intervals, or even not at all. The B58 is proving to be an excellent motor in this application from a performance standpoint and seems to mate well to its intended usage (most likely low mileage and driven hard). If the price to pay is a quart of oil every 1k miles or so, I'll gladly - and have - pay it. I sold my M3 with almost 100k miles on it, didn't have any issues with the car from an engine perspective, and was putting a quart-ish of oil in it every 2k or 2.5k miles, and I drove the crap out of that thing. Just the way it was. If we start to see cars who are consuming oil at this rate that are having major issues at 20k miles, we'll know there's a problem, but only time will tell us that.

We're early adopters, after all! Until then - enjoy it!

Took my 2021 3.0 in yesterday 05/31/2021 for this issue. My daily car. Did my first oil change at 1,200 miles. Got this "minimal oil level" notification at around 3,550 miles. Car was at the dealership for about 6 hours before I got call from my service advisor telling me that they have to get in contact with Toyota Corporate about them sending out a tech for repair or possible engine replacement.

Was the level still at max when you changed the oil at 1200 miles?

Yes, it was still at max at 1,200 miles. I wouldn't say that I was super easy during break in, but I never redlined the car, only spirited driving and some pulls after it came up to temp. No leaks or anything just straight up burning the oil.
