I made it to around 4,500miles before my low oil light came on. I think I lasted until this late on the odometer is because I usually waited for about 15 minutes of driving before using the gas pedal in a normal matter. I was always gentle until the car warmed up. I think most of the blow by happens when the engine is still cold and people dropping the hammer.
Interesting. I usually let the car warm up in the garage for about 10 full mins then wait until it is fully warmed up before any kind of hard acceleration. But, I usually do that, it's not a hard and fast rule for me. I more consistently let the car idle in the garage for about 10 full mins after any kind of spirited driving.

Iā€™m at 2,000 miles. Not sure if this is where I should be or if itā€™s down a little?

Mine read the same at 3700 miles then I changed it. Sticking with the factory recommend oil. I don't disagree with everyone saying 5w30 is a good weight, but 0w20 is likely a better winter choice if you live in a cold climate.

Yes
Yeah that seems to be the majority who post they have to refill early. I wonder if the low loads and reduced RPM make the engine not seal up right. The oil is so thin from factory, I wonder if it's escaping.
I did a hard break-in and my level stayed at full. I also changed to a thicker 5W-30 to reduce the chance for blowby even more.
When I had an STI the same thing happened. People who took it easy during their break-in had oil issues and the ones who did a hard break-in had nothing.

Yes Definitely! I have a 2021 and I get on it pretty good use sport mode a lot, do pulls, downshift deceleration, im at 1400 miles with the oem oil, gonna change the oil at 1500 miles with 5w 30 amzoil no loss in oil at all.

The indicator isnā€™t always accurate, in the sense that it can fluctuate before hitting the top up warning. Mine showed 1/2, then went back up to 3/4! Iā€™d just monitor and check the oil level again.

Wouldnā€™t worry too much till you get the low oil warning.

I agree...
But I've also gotten oil warning at 3200 miles..
And 3/4 low now at 3970 miles..

Steve
So officially got my 3rd low oil warning today at 4091 miles...

First at 2516...
Second at 3209...
Third at 4091...

Seems like alot of oil but I'll take it into Toyota for them to top and document...

Still love the car though?

Yeah that ain't right. Get an oil consumption test done. Looks like a new engine will be headed your way.

Is your car sitting at a slight incline or decline where itā€™s parked? BMWā€™s use a stupidly sensitive oil level sensor that if your car is on the slightest incline/decline it will trigger the light. Get it on a level ground, and test again.

Ground is level...I check the oil in the same place at the foot of my driveway every time...

I do wish it was an incline/decline issue or even a sensor issue...
Just don't think that's gonna be the case..we'll see what Toyota has to say though...

My brothers MKV had the same issueā€¦.turned out to be the garage floor was at a slight angle. He also switched to Motul 300Vā€¦.not sure if that may have helped. No more low oil level indicator.

I'll bust my laser level out n check...haha..jk..

So if the sensor is misreading and oil is added, isn't to much oil just as bad as low oil?

Correct. Excessive oil fill up is no bueno. Iā€™d bet my dollar your oil isnā€™t actually low, but more so related to false oil level sensor output.

Hopefully Toyota can get it figured out...regardless of the issue...
