Chargeback Scammers

I’m creating this thread in an attempt to help fellow vendors and small businesses owners who operate an e-commerce website.

Chargeback scams have been popular for a while. It’s when a customer places an order, receives their part, and then opens a chargeback with their bank to get their money refunded.

Unfortunately even after providing evidence like a tracking number with delivery notification to the bank, in most cases the bank will choose to side with their customer.

First on the list who ordered 2 items from my website, received it, and then opened a chargeback without any communication about potential issues with their order is

The bank refunded their money and now I’m down the cost of the items, shipping cost, and the chargeback fee the bank charged me.

I’m trying to look out for other vendors in the Supra community, if you see this name or address be very careful about doing any business with them.

Last year absolutely sucked with how many chargebacks I had. Big items too. I have come to the conclusion that anything going to a freight forwarding company in FL or NY is fraud. I will see if I can generate a list of people and post them up.

I’m sorry to hear that. Please post that list.

they don’t realize that other than the financial loss we are taking with these chargebacks it also negatively affects our payment processing gateway.

I work in e-commerce and CA and FL are the biggest fraud states. Definitely always cancel any orders going to freight forwarders. My team and I google the address of every single order (around 1000 per month) and verify it's a residence. Some fraudsters input their freight forwarder address to look like an apartment.

Is there any type of insurance you can get to protect business against this fraud? What about your bank, can they take action? Last, will requiring signature at delivery make a difference?

People like that ruin it for the rest. It results in a drive up on prices from sellers.

Just happened to me, unfortunately, for a 4-digit order. This is a great thread idea, these guys are the worst and I've pretty much stopped accepting credit cards from NY clients unless we've worked together in the past. This stuff hearts small business owners.
