That's definitely your opinion but I disagree. On the actual supraforums most people's reception of the new vette was hand down better than the fake supra.

I disagree. The Supra GT aspects goes away when Toyota made it a 2 seater. Toyota describes the Supra as a sport car in competition with the Cayman.
All the sports cars I've owned for the past 18 years, have been japanese (3 MK4 Supras). The C8 is a paradigm change for me and maybe other Supra owners.

Not sure if new Corvette will really impact Supra sales.

I am of the opinion that people will buy what they buy. Ford truck fans would never buy a Chevy and not even consider an “import”, same with Chevy fans and “import” fans. German car fans will always buy German cars no matter what.

You may have an occasional guy cross-shop a Bette, Porsche and perhaps a Supra. But car people usually have their minds made up already even if they appear to cross-shop.

    Category A
I think the people who will love and buy the Supra are
    1. Owners of Supras
    2. Owners of other Toyota’s (includes people who flip flop between Honda and Toyota cars only)
    3. Owners of Lexus cars
    4. People who watched TFATF and fall into #1, #2 or #3

    Category B
People who will look at the Supra and seriously consider it
    • Fans of TFATF but don’t have a Toyota
    • People who usually buy other Japanese cars (can be Civics, to G35’s to MDX’s, everything in between)
    • People who would’ve bought a Z4 because they like BMWs but are somehow attracted to the Supra (whether it’s price, styling, etc)
    Category C
People who may pretend to consider or never even consider a Supra
    • People who almost exclusively buy American cars
    • People who almost exclusively buy German cars
    • People who almost exclusively buy other European cars

    Category D
People who actually buy all sorts of cars and cross-shop cars

I think an overwhelming majority of prospective Supra customers (aka people who can afford and have looked at or read about the new Supra) fall into category A, B, or C. The same categories can be made for the Corvette, Cayman, etc.

I think Category D does exist, but it’s a relatively small segment of the population. Small to the point where it will have only a minor impact on overall sales.

I think the success of the Supra will hinge on
    1. Convincing people in category B that the Supra is the right car for them
    2. Convincing people of category A to buy the Supra and not other Toyota products
It would be great if category C or D people also jump in. I am not saying Toyota should totally ignore or dismiss people in C or D, but I think A and B will be the difference between the Supra being a success or failure

I agree with your hypothetical group analysis, but all of that needs to be predicated on the fact that group A and and even group B consider the new mkv an actual supra deeper than the badge on the back. On here many people obviously do, on the other supraforums the majority does not.

Well if you go back in time, most people over there were also shitting all over the R35 GTR when it was 1st released. ;)

Supraforum is a cesspool of negativity. You get chewed up for liking the car.

    I've owned a 98 TT 6-spd, 94 SW20 Turbo, IS300 5-spd, 4Runner SR5 4x4, dad has a 14 Lexus 460, mom used to have a 93 previa, brother has a 14 camry - I'd say a true Toyota "enthusiast" family.

    At the same time, mom's got a e46 330ci, brother had an e46 m3, i've owned 4x e46 M3s, 1x e92 m3, 2x e63 m6s, and now daily drive a f10 535i. Also a BMW "enthusiast" family.

On top - i've owned a 09 GT-R and have a 06 350z as a weekend driver / canyon carver. (my secret hidden love for Nissan too)

All of this said, MKV Supra would've is the perfect marriage of my two favorite brands but the C8 has blown me away. It's the R35 reveal of the year - nobody in their right mind could've imagined a car this class is sub $60k to start. I was born and raised American (Taiwanese-American), love this amazing country and have always wanted an excuse to be patriotic and go domestic. This car is likely to be the one to do it.

IMO - a true car enthusiast loves all cars and appreciates them for what they are - not where they came from or how much they cost. Just my 2c :)

Yeah no doubt...not all but some. They are great cars that demonstrate Nissan's willingness to innovate and develop a halo car within.

You’re a true car guy and your family. I wish there were more folks like your family. I’m definitely happy to see and hope more people are like that!

I just think there are many biases in between everything. There are many different reasons (sometimes it makes sense philosophically, sometimes it may even have to do with xenophobia) why some will stick to certain brands or makes religiously and unfortunately, I think there are more like that the more like you.

Naturally, you have 4 generations of supra owners on there who are protective of the name at the top of the forum...just like this place. Except the loyalty is beholden to a car that no one actually has yet.

Idk if we're reading the same threads. The majority of people where crapping on it say "ugly, no MT, no I6 etc". (Not that I disagree) I would link it, but something happened to that forum. It now has this odd layout and I can't find the old search box.

Nice balance if cars on there sir, I've owned a handful of bmws, Mercedes, Porsche, toyotas, and my daily driver is a cummins..lol. I love this new car that Toyota and BMW created, I just dont think it has much to do with the name on the back. Love all cars is right, how can you actually hate something inanimate. It's the ideology people attach to like politics and religion. Doesn't mean opinions are not welcome on both sides of the topic.

Agree, the Vette has always sold in huge numbers. Like 20,000 to 30,000 units a year just in the US. On the other hand I think the Supra is more of a niche product. Aren't they only looking to sell less than 10,000 units globally.

Yeah the site owners changed the forum software, it's a hot mess. I am confused also, I agreed with you when the gtr first came out there was a ton of negativity at the fact there was no manual, fast forward to now and many many supra owners have owned atleast for a short while an r35. I had the privilege of driving a friends for a week and they are seriously fantastic cars. I was also one of the people critical of the manual back then, but once I drove it, it made sense. A manual trans in that car now would seem foreign. People are capable of changing their opinions with either knowledge or experience. But there are limitations to which supra can be called a supra

Oh yes, it's such an eyesore. The old forum was sooo much better. No offense to anyone that owns one, but I still think the GTR is ugly as sin. Yeah I think if Toyota had call it a 2000GT a lot of people would be less mad lol.
