... and not a Roadster? A BMW spokesperson just confirmed that they are in talks with Toyota about a roadster.

The bmw/toyota joint development is supposed to be for a mid sized sports coupe so i think this bit if news is talking about an entirely diff thing.

I dont think this means anything. It doesnt say the roadster is the toyota car, actually I think the speculation that it will be the Z4 is what's going on here.

That's just a general term to describe the general size and sporty intention of the models that will likely be built off this codeveloped platform. Rumor all along is that this will spawn the BMW Z4 or Z5 so there's likely to be both a sports coupe [supra] and roadster [z4/z5] built from this.

Saw this and did a double take. Anyone else see this being the actual/potential "co-developed" vehicle? Would make sense assuming the Supra is a 2+2, as it should be (assuming it stays true lineage). Z4 has always been a 2 seater and the 6 series is a 2+2. IMHO, it makes ALLOT of sense. But heck we are all speculating at this point :)

    Spied 6 Series

Here's to 2017 NAIAS hosting the Supra debut

    Thoughts?

not to mention bigger and heavier. if they wanted to go this route IMO it would have made more sense to go with the LC or RC platform.

That car looks 1/3 longer long than the Supra prototype we've already seen so no way!

I don't think so because the 6er is a pretty big car.

    Height: 54.1 in

All of the original press releases and rumors and leaks and whatnot talked about a "modular platform."

So sure these could share some semblance of a platform, one being bigger than the other.

But IMO when both the new Supra and Z5 are being tested coming out of the same facility at the same time, seems like it's clear that they have the most in common.

The modular platform that the 6 series is built on (dubbed "CLAR") is supposed to be for the 3 Series and bigger models. Besides the CLAR, the only other platform that I know BMW to be using going forward is the UKL platform (FWD and AWD only), which is for the 1 Series, 2 Series and MINI cars. The Z5 and Supra are supposed to be on their own joint BMW-Toyota platform, and should have nothing to do with a 6 Series.
