If the price is over 60k I'd be tempted to look at 911s that are a few years old. That's just my opinion though.
I think that's where I'm gonna end up with this. At any price point they put this at there's gonna be a 911 I'd rather have. Just depends on if I feel like it's a better idea to get a new car than a used one..... and if there's a manual.

Exactly, right now I'm looking at 996TT's to hold me over.
You and me both. A co-worker has a 997TT, and has given me a plethora of info on the platform. Late model 996TT's and I believe all 997TT's had the venerable "Mezger" engine...capable of over 1000HP on stock bottom-end. However, for me any 911TT will surely be a used car purchase.

Yea the engine in the 996TT and 997TT is absolutely amazing, and apparently they are quite reliable. values have just about bottomed out, so you could drive one for a few years and not really lose any thing on it...It has me thinking...

Love all the carbon bits on the race car... but of course quite keen to see the interior of the production model now.

I think they are endearing ;)
Don't get me wrong the 996 is a great car! I had a friend with a 996 GT2 that was pushing over 1000whp and man was that quick! The tunability on those cars is quite impressive.

the 996 is cancer IMO, but I like the 997 (preferably the 997.2).

between that hideous front end and the IMS bearing, I wouldn't be caught in a 996 lol.
IMS is not apparent on the turbo cars from what I'm told....however, the 996's did suffer from coolant leaks (TSB took care of most cases). It was the later 996.2's and 997's that had the sought after motors. I never considered a 911 until I went to lunch with my co-worker, and he got on it. It's fast!!! Like, really really fast for a 2009!!

All 996 - 997.1 GT2, GT3 and Turbo models use the Mezger engine, which does not have an IMS and is a pretty bulletproof engine (coolant hoses aside). Those are the ones to get.

997.2 GT2, GT3, GT3 and race car (Cup/RSR) continued to use the Mezger engine, but the Turbo moved to the newer, cheaper to build DI engines.

No 991 received the Mezger engine, except the race cars.
