I realize with it being an auto tranny many will never be happy. However, based on this video, it sounds like if it had to be an auto, Toyota picked the right one..

Good find. Thought I might shed some light. My uncle is a porsche enthusiast. He has the 911 turbo s, gt3 rs, and now the gt2. He hand picked each car from Germany and sent to u.s. he has been to Porsche driving school many times in the last 3 years. He definitely has track experience and knowledge. He says he loves a manual transmission. But in the cars he owns and has driven in school. The manual vs the PDK(also a zf trans for porsce) he says it's no contest. The pdk kills the manual trans.

On a track, it's really a no brainer that dual clutch will win. millisecond shifts and no distraction. hands on the wheel all the time..
Many people who shift super quickly tried even on Golf's and they can't beat DCTs..
But to the point, ZF8 does seem to be a great transmission.

Having driven and been in the Bimmers using the ZF and DCTs, you guys won't be disappointed by the ZF. It's like a DCT without all the notchiness in 1st->2nd, weird parking behaviors, or expensive ass clutch repairs/upgrades.

Yes, i deal with the ZFs on a regular basis, and the ZF8 is actually a great Auto.

But unlike a DCT, you can't down shift 2 gears in the ZF8 :(

Can you expand on that? I saw some reviews where the car wouldn’t downshift to 2nd, presumably due to the high speed the tester was traveling, however, others dropped 2 gears with 2 quick taps of the paddle...?

ZF equipped vehicles I have driven could downshift 2 gears seamlessly...

With my old DCT, I can go from 6-4, and 4-2 easily with double tap.
But now with my ZF8 I have to go from 6-5-4, and 4-3-2 as there is a delay after going to 5th and 3rd where you have to let the car shift before down shifting again.
it's the software but I don't know how different this Zupra will be.

Hmmm, ya must just be a software setting, last ZF I drove was the f-type r and I didn’t detect any delay. Hopefully it isn’t an issue here.

I didn't notice any delay dropping multiple gears in the Supra. It will prevent you from shifting down if you'll over-rev the engine, but I'm pretty sure that's standard with all automatics of any kind.

How was the response from pulling the paddle to change? Someone mentioned slower shifts in manual compared to sport, did you find this?

It's slower in the Normal mode vs Sport, which is by design. Manual mode just prevented the car from going back into auto.

I saw those reviews as well, I hope those cars were just malfunctioning if not, gonna have to look for some sort of aftermarket transmission tune

It won't let you downshift if the revs will jump over redline.

I figured that, but I guess I thought the professional car people that were in attendance at Summit would know that, rather than stating that the transmission won’t downshift....
