If so, driving the Supra into South Minneapolis might be dangerous
Right?

Awhile back on facebook BMW Facebook group there was a warning about thieves in a old black Mercedes going after M3’s specifically in the NYC area...

is your concealed carry permit up to date?

WTH is up with this thread? If they want the Supra, give it to them. Thats what insurance for. You can get another new one. Your life isn't worth a car that can be bought again.

I've driven my Supra plenty all over Chicago and never had an issue. I'm pretty sure you'll be fine in Minneapolis.

Luckily for us, I don't think most carjackers are interested in sports cars, especially not new ones. They want pickup trucks/SUV, older Honda's and Toyota's for parts.

That said, if someone pointed a gun at me wanting my Supra, they can have it. I'll just buy another one.

Car jacking is very real and very common. At least it is here in Chicago. The 2 most common techniques to jack a car. The tried and trusted with a weapon like a gun in the face. Or the creative bump and grab. They hit the back of the car they want intentionally. When the driver of that car gets out to inspect the damage the thieves jump in their car and drive off.

Armed car jacking is not a adult crime either. As in, it's not just adults carrying out the crimes. It's totally out of control in Chicago. 10-year old kids are learning the car jacking trade. Yes, not a typo, 10-year old kids are sticking real guns into people's faces and taking their cars. They also gang up in large groups and surround unsuspecting victims and pull them out of cars before driving off. It's not a one off incident either. It's common and become a sport.

That's what everyone says until they get carjacked. It's always fine until it's not fine. I hear that from people in LA all the time who say "I drive through south central LA all the time, it's totally safe." Then they are surprised when they get carjacked or shot. I live in an affluent area and a guy near me just got jacked while driving his Cayenne Turbo. With the pandemic worsening and the economy going to shit, thefts will increase.

Chicago will have had over 1,000 carjacking's by the EOY. Truly sad, and a testament to the fact that criminals are not concerned that much, or worry about being held accountable, especially when there is already so much crime, the police are having a difficult time keeping up already.

It's not just car jackings. Crime is a very real and serious problem in Chicago. It is not uncommon to have 30-40 shootings a night. That's everynight. The degrees of separation for knowing someone who was car jacked, robbed, a victim of crime, is astonishing in most large cities like Chicago. One problem of many. Armed car jackers under the age of 18 are released if they are arrested because they are not adults. As a result they know there are no real consequences. There are known cases of "kids" carjacking with guns who are arrested and released only to car jack again less then 24 hours later. I remember in one instance where a "kid" was released and tried another armed car jacking less then 12 hours later. The second attempted car jacking did not turn out so well for the kid. The kid's intended victim was a retired cop who was armed. The kid was shot dead during the attempted armed car jacking.
