I was looking at the curb weight and the MKIV was a porker.

Nice blast from the past! I have 1993 and 1995 around here somewhere..

It wasn't really for the period and it's not a small car to begin with. Marketing specs aside, TTs in the real world were 34xx and the Hardtops were closer to 33xx off the showroom floor. Also, basic mods like downpipe, exhaust, wheels would shed 100lbs easy. Cast iron block and the sequential turbo system was ~70lbs by itself (I know because I sold and shipped one). Nearly every aftermarket performance part shed weight.

Thanks for the share! Really cool to get a glimpse into the MKIV era. I always loved the way the dash wrapped around the driver in the MK4, just doesn't look like it'd be as roomy as the current gen lol

Actually more roomy interior vs MKV. And feels much larger because of the lower dash and bigger, shallower windshield. The MKV is small; nearly identical to my S2000. MKIV is cavernous in comparison.

Really?? So leg/shoulder room were actually pretty generous then?

The MKIV aside from headroom has a few inches more in every direction than the MKV. Dimensions aside, because of the layout, size of glass, etc.. it still feels much bigger. The Japanese GT cars of this era were all comparatively spacious and comfy but also physically bigger in general. Supra, 3000GT, 300ZX. The RX-7 is more a true "sports car" vs GT and a car that that you wore like a suit vs sit in.
