Official specs give SZ, SZ-R and RZ as the 3 versions.

SZ is the 4-cylinder twin-scroll turbo with 197 hp
SZ-R is the 4-cylinder twin scroll turbo with 258 hp
RZ is the 6-cylinder twin scroll turbo with 340 hp

I wonder whats the difference between the SZ and SZR in terms of engine internals?

Can the SZ be remapped to same power levels of the SZR?

Or it has to do with mini cooper s and cooper jcw engines?

*edit
For an in-line four-cylinder engine, set two 2.0 liter twin scroll turbo engines with different tunings

Translated from Japanese. I still stand corrected.

This is getting better by the hour...
They weren't able to integrate an existing BMW / ZF manual transmission
They weren't able to squeeze even one extra hp out of the B58 with their own "tune"
...
But at least they added two even less powerful engines... what's next, the 1,5L B37 Diesel?

Trust me, with the absence of any performance sports coupe in the Japanese scene (like the NISSAN Silvia), the 258hp 4-cylinder 2.0l SZ-R will sell crazy and serve as a tuning base for many.
With a highly tunable engine (up to 350+hp with the stock turbo and internals), an aftermarket brake kit / suspension / wheels set, you have a coupe with excellent performance, premium interior and great design for less money.

SZR20 Supras coming??
In Japan it will be available. So i suppose Europe.
Not sure for US....
For me, as i am in Cyprus (EU) and we have RHD cars, i will import from Japan an SZ-R (if its not available officially in the EU).

I didn't peruse that much, but when I did, I found comments on their Youtube videos to be generally positive. They like the car and think it looks like a worthy successor. On the other hand, on the free for all 2chan, it's pretty much like here, a bashfest.

Yeah, the Japanese press has responded well. The main comment being that it still feels like a Toyota. Only two journalists that I saw complained, one was that the tires were too twitchy when not warmed up (like, what?), and the other who complained about the drivetrain being German.

The grass is always greener...
German cars are coveted a bit more in Japan and are considered exclusive compared to their domestic wares, the co-production might not hurt them as much overall there. Hard to say.
I was just reading about "The Lost Decade" in Japan. Wikipedia it. People who lived through that can probably understand better why a deal like this was (or at least seemed) necessary.

Or maybe they're just really polite lol.
