To remain naturally aspirated

Instagram user johan9ff has published very revealing images of the upcoming 2015 Porsche 911 GT3 RS.

These are by far the most revealing images of the still unreleased 911 GT3 RS which despite the familiar styling it comes with a wider body featuring a large fixed rear wing, ventilated front fenders, double bubble roof along with carbon fiber front & rear spoiler lips.

According to the latest gossip, the new Porsche 911 GT3 RS will have a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter engine outputting 500 bhp (373 kW) transferred to the wheels exclusively via a PDK transmission. It will ride on 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels and is set to receive a Java Orange launch color along with a pit lane function electronically limiting speed while in the pit lane.

The model should complete a Nürburgring lap in less than seven and a half minutes but it is believed Porsche's test drivers have already accomplished a 7:10 lap.

A full reveal is expected to occur in early March at the Geneva Motor Show.

Porsche is answering stick shift enthusiasts with a 6 speed manual only Cayman GT4, with 385Hp. Using basically the same Carerra S engine they are using in GT3, but detuned.

2015 GT3 is already sold out. Taking a break for 2016, then coming out with a newer GT3 in 2017. I wonder if they'll be redoing the fire-engine for 2017!

Thought they already fixed the current fire issue for the cars that were already produced?

I've talked to the dealer about that. There are a few versions of the story on the street as well as by the dealers as to what the culprit was! And currently the dealers story is that it's fixed.

Unfortunately those engines are not being raced by the factory...and will never be, so only time will tell. Anyways not sure what they are coming up with for 2017...?

I heard a nasty rumor that they are even thinking turbo, if they want the Hp out of a standard Carerra engine without using the high temp treated Mezger engine.

Porsche 911 GT3 RS will have 500 HP and 460 Nm flat-six 4.0 engine

PDK only

A leaked internal document has revealed all the juicy technical specifications of the highly anticipated Porsche 911 GT3 RS.

It turns out rumors were spot on as the Porsche 911 GT3 RS will have 500 HP (368 kW) coming from a newly developed flat-six 4.0-liter engine generating a maximum torque of 460 Nm (340 lb-ft). The motor will work exclusively with a seven-speed PDK gearbox channeling power to the rear axle. It benefits from a Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus) system and an electronically-controlled rear differential lock with full variable torque split.

It's about 50mm wider at the front and 30mm at the back compared to the 911 GT3 and rides on 20-inch front & 21-inch rear forged alloys wrapped around in 265/35 ZR 20 and 325/30 ZR 21 rear rubbers, respectively. Stopping power is provided by six-piston front & four-piston rear aluminum red brake calipers working with 380mm vented and cross-drilled compound brake discs featuring aluminum brake chambers.

The body is made from aluminum and steel composite while the rear lid, rear wing and full bucket seats are manufactured from carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP). Forged aluminum was used for the air intakes and wings; magnesium for the roof and polycarbonate for the rear and front side windows.

A full reveal could occur as early as next week at the Geneva Motor Show but Porsche could decide to until September for IAA to avoid stealing the Cayman GT4's thunder at the Swiss show.

$176K, just to get 5 second on std GT3 around the ring!

With the new (?) 4 liter engine, I'm curious if they went back to the Mezger engine from the last 4 liter RS engine? Or it's based on a bored out Carerra S 3.8 engine (which is the same base engine used in the current GT3 & 4)?

"ATLANTA – The new Porsche 911 GT3 RS made its debut Tuesday during the 2015 Geneva Int’l Motor Show.

It is equipped with the maximum amount of motorsport technology that is currently possible in a street-legal 911 suitable for everyday driving. Extensive modifications to its drivetrain, aerodynamics, and lightweight design take performance to an even higher level than the 911 GT3. With a Nuerburgring Nordschleife lap time of seven minutes and 20 seconds, the new 911 GT3 RS surpasses the 911 GT3 by five seconds, making it the fastest current generation 911 on the famous German racetrack.

Motorsport expertise is the driving force behind this superior performance. The 911 GT3 RS is powered by a four-liter six-cylinder engine developing 500 hp and 338 lb.-ft. of torque, combined with a specially developed PDK transmission. The engine has the largest displacement and most power of any naturally aspirated engine with direct fuel injection in the 911 family, accelerating the high-performance sports car from zero to 60 miles per hour in 3.1 seconds and propelling it through the quarter mile on the track in 11.2 seconds. Functions such as declutching by “paddle neutral” – which is comparable to pressing the clutch with a conventional manual gearbox – and speed limiting via the Pit Speed button have been adapted from motorsport use. They give drivers more freedom in terms of driving dynamics, while providing them with a maximum level of control and engagement.

The 911 GT3 RS is a masterpiece of intelligent lightweight design. For the first time, the roof is made of magnesium; carbon fiber is used for the engine and luggage compartment lids, and other components are made of weight saving materials. This makes the RS model around 22 pounds (10 kilograms) lighter than the 911 GT3. Furthermore, the lightweight roof lowers the sports car’s center of gravity which improves its already excellent lateral dynamics. The body comes from the 911 Turbo, and it signifies its status as a race-inspired driving machine with its RS-specific aerodynamic enhancements. The front spoiler lip, which sits close to the ground, and the large rear wing reinforce its dominant look.

A 30 centimeter wide recess extends centrally over the CFRP hood and the magnesium roof. This feature is a stylistic reference to the recess on the luggage compartment lid of the classic 911 models with air-cooled engines, while highlighting the two largest lightweight components of the new 911 GT3 RS. Another characteristic is the unique front wheel arch air vents that extend into the upper section of the fenders – just like on purebred race cars. They increase downforce at the front axle.

The chassis of the 911 GT3 RS has been tuned for maximum driving dynamics and precision. Rear-axle steering and Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus with fully variable rear axle differential lock increases agility and dynamics, and the wider track in front and at the rear reduces body roll even further than in the 911 GT3. In addition, the 911 GT3 RS comes with the widest tires of any 911 model. The results: even more agile turn-in characteristics, even sharper steering response, and even greater cornering speeds.

The interior design of the 911 GT3 RS with Alcantara® elements is based on the current 911 GT3. One key new feature is the full bucket seats, which are based on the carbon bucket seats from the 918 Spyder. The optional Sport Chrono Package features – in addition to its integrated timers – the Porsche Track Precision app for smartphone use. The Track Precision app can be used to have times automatically measured via GPS, and to log data on a smartphone for many driving parameters such as vehicle speed, lateral acceleration as well as deceleration and acceleration in the driving direction. It manages this data and lets the driver share and compare it with results from other drivers.

The 911 GT3 RS can be ordered now, and it will launch in the U.S. in early July of 2015. In the United States, the MSRP is $175,900, not including a $995 destination charge."
