Hi everyone, new to the group. I have a 2020 Supra. ive seen some threads on the forum about rattles but not sure if its the same issue as the one that im having.

i have a NASTY rattle when i play any music in my car. With all my Tone settings in the middle.

the rattle comes from the the black felted area where the child anchor is behind the passenger seat. if i press my hand against that plastic block and press against the whole compartment the rattling goes away and the music sounds better. soon as i release pressure the rattle comes back.

im dropping it off to a local dealer but im sure theyll either find a temporary fix or not fix it at all.

does anyone have this same issue?
how did you fix it?
is this covered under manufacturer warranty?

My opinion on rattles is to try and find the source and solution yourself, if you're not afraid of removing some panels and clips/screws.

You have identified the source to a point and are able to recreate and resolve it temporarily as well, not sure what dealer will do, who knows, I may be giving them less credit, but I'm sure services hate finding source of noise complaints..

I feel like the only thing dealer will do, very possibly for the first time for Supra, try to remove some more-then-necessary panels to root cause the issue, spend hours working on it and will then charge you for a stupid labor and won't find an any issue/solution. Maybe apply lithium grease...
In the end, my experience is once you start fiddling around with panels to fix one issue, you may end up creating more rattling, buzzing, etc. noises..

Anyhow, maybe try removing that child seat cover and see if that solves the issue?

Also, if you haven't taken a look, look at these:

yes.

ive looked at all those threads. none of them explain or detail my issue. Those threads are focused on improving the sound no so much about a rattle issue. i dont need/want to be the loudest sounding, i dont mind the "premium" audio system but i do mind the rattle that happens at any volume level with any song i play.

i just hope the dealer doesnt make a temporary fix, and either replaces or finds and fixes the issue.

This specific vibration / rattle fix (along with many other areas) was discussed over a year ago within this thread below...

Vibrations/Rattles in 2020 Premium Supra

And here is a video which shows how to resolve your specific issue (starting @ 2:16)

i prefer not a DIY fix. rather i prefer that the Toyota fix and correct this issue. ive seen the video before. i feel this is a manufacturer issue dont we think?

It's an easy fix...Also, I'd rather not have a Toyota tech remove panels and tear up my interior searching for rattles....In my experience this never ends well and your left with even more vibrations and rattles...

Good luck...

What the master said^^

Also the problem is the oem quality so replacing anything with another oem piece would likely not solve your problem anyway. I'd follow tadda's recommendations. They definitely helped me. Especially the part about adding silicone between the cheap pieces on the plastic subwoofer grilles

I thought this was the thread linked above but I guess tadda was referencing a different thread.

This thread by @tadda outlines a bunch of great modifications to help optimize your audio and decrease vibrations.

Towards the end of the first post there's a section about the subwoffer grilles and applying silicone. Essentially if you pull out the grilles which pop up easily, then separate the 2 plastic layers that are very loosely connected, you can apply a bit of silicone in between and it will help the rattle that a lot of people (myself included) would hear.

Also, if you want to just fix the vibrations from the panel with the child seat anchor, here is a 30 second fix: just put some foam padding in the gap between it and the lower panel to tighten it up.
