Hi so, I just got back my MkV from the collision center. However, they told me they could not figure out how to reprogram the SRS and also calibrating the rear Parking sensor. They even brought it to Toyota and the Toyota tech team could not “update” the software. Now I’m driving with SRS lights on with the following error:

Drivetrain Malfunction
Restraint System
chassis Stabilization

the car was rear ended and now everything is fixed with new parts but the errors still exists.
The collision center told me to go to BMW after Toyota tech guy couldn’t reprogram the SRS and calibrate the parking sensors.
I have BimmerLink and OBD link MX+
What else can I do to clear these codes and ensure the SRS is working ?

is the SRS linked with the chassis and drivetrain? If one doesn’t work then the other errors will exist?

I added my BimmerLink error codes hoping someone could point me to the right direction to get my car “reprogrammed”

Was it repaired under insurance? If so, do NOT accept car until it is fully fixed. Since iunsurance pays to bodyshop they have to deal with all issues. It s possible that your issue cannot be solved without additional major work and parts swap, which may bring repair cost to a point when insurance will write off the car. If you are dealing with insurance of a person who hit you from behind, you better hire a lawer and let him communicate with insurance company.

One sensor off can trigger the others. Many of the repair shops use Snap On brand computers, which are awesome, but can’t do everything for our BMW cars. I‘m currently in the same boat with a steering angle sensor, same error codes on my dash. Toyota and BMW have the Hunter alignment computer to reset that specific sensor. I’m in line (have an appointment) to get mine done. My mechanic will walk them through it if they have any problems. If your Toyota dealer is unsure, find a mechanic that is familiar with the correct diagnostic tool needed. Sucks you have to do this work for them and definitely have them pay for it like @AP1 said.

Yep, same boat with slightly different codes after full SPL parts install and a bunch of other stuff. As @FLtrackdays said, shop uses a Snap On computer, and couldn't calibrate the DSC. After they took it out of service mode after bleeding the brakes, it started the calibration process, and they couldn't finish it. I have an appointment with my dealership on Tuesday to get it fixed.

Edit: I have the chassis stabilization error too and I noticed something. When I'm manual mode, I can't downshift into 2nd or 1st gear until at almost idle. In auto mode it will do it no problem, though. This typical?

Also have the same problem (chassis codes, steering codes, rear diff codes) after SPL parts install and alignment…

Please post here if you manage to solve it @FLtrackdays @underdonk
Was your car out into service mode for any reason during the install? I had brake pads/fluid done at the same time, which requires the car be out into service mode to bleed, and coming out of service mode requires a calibration of the DSC, hence my chassis error code. They didn't have the electronics to do it. What is the specific chassis error code you're seeing?

I don’t think my car was technically in service mode, although a bbk was installed + rear pads + full flush/bleed.

The codes were all thrown after car was driven with ride height too low and rear l passenger wheel toed out about 6-10 degrees (don’t ask 🥵).

Holy smokes that's a blood bath. If you clear all codes do they all come back?

Yes, those are the codes that came back after clearing them.

Been to 4 shops with no luck. Got one more thing to try and then taking it to Toyota for a steering angle sensor reset on Tuesday to see if that helps…

I’ve also knocked my front radar sensor out of place :/

Do you guys think those bi directional scan tools tablet by foxwell or Autel (599 bucks and up range) will work?

Yes it was repaired under insurance (other guy didn’t had one) but I have uninsured protection. The car was fixed parts wise and all the OEM parts was purchased and replaced. What I was told is the car software /firmware needs to be reprogrammed and it’s something Toyota failed to do. I have another appointment with BMW will see how that one goes. If not I’m getting rid of this car.

Nope. Tried foxwell and several more expensive scan tools with 0 success.

The only solution we found was purchasing a license for Toyota’s ISTA software and using that. It also requires a $500 cable to connect it to the car but a generic $20 ENET can be used if you manually install the drivers for the more expensive cable to trick the system into thinking you’ve got the right cable connected.

There aren’t really instructions on how to set things up - not user friendly at all if you’re not already familiar. Even getting the software installed was tricky and the directions were very incomplete.

Anyway, once setup you can go into Toyota’s software and run all the diagnostic and resets that you want (steering angle sensor and others) without a problem.

In short, you have to use Toyota’s factory software and have somebody who really knows what they’re doing to navigate the system… it’s not straightforward at all.

In the end it worked and cleared every code.

No chassis codes, no rear diff codes, no steering or speed codes, no power steering cutoff at 15mph, HUD and radar both work again. Like new. 🤙
