M340i expected specs..

So I have been reading around and the new M340i (which uses the B58) is expected to have 382Bhp and a 0-60 of 4.2seconds.. (not confirmed as final)

I think its fair to assume the non european versions of the Supra should be doing the 0-60 in 3.8-4.0 with ease tbh if they are also putting out the same figures (also expected to have a 382bhp B58 for some markets).

What do you guys think? All i know is that european WLTP testing is shite and needs to be abolished

highly likely but I still have a hard time believing the Supra will get the same HP. With the MK5's lower curb weight, think they will tune it for less power to avoid any conflict of interest with BMW as that would would keep many of the highly marketed paper specs (0-60, 1/4 mile, etc) at the very least the same between comparably priced BMW models while the Supra gets better lap times.

toyota specifically said only over 300 hp and a 0-60 of under 5 secs which also points to this...sure they could be under selling what they have to surprise us all but considering how many groans were heard after the announcement, I'm not sure that was their intention. This whole project was already watered down from the start, slightly less HP from the factory isn't going to really affect driving pleasure, I'm sure it will still have great dynamics....and after all toyota is trying to sell a package here, not just straight line performance so I don't think less HP will really matter..

Meant to respond earlier, but i agree with what you’re saying. Also, it seems odd that Toyota would promise a 0-60 under 5.0, but then have production be under 4.0. That’d be the biggest troll move ever.

bmw have a history of vastly understating their HP figures. Considering this is a BMW B58 as well, I wouldn’t be too upset because the M140i (in the UK) were quoted to be doing 335Bhp but were actually putting out 360bhp.. once remapped ive heard of many coming out with results around the 400bhp mark or above.

https://jalopnik.com/so-is-the-bmw-m340i-a-four-door-supra-or-what-1830449113

For years I have dreamed of getting a Toyota Cressida, a rear-drive four-door sedan that shared its heart with the Supra of its day. Now with the Supra coming back, done in partnership with BMW, I have to wonder: The new four-door Toyota Supra is the BMW M340i, right?

BMW recently gave us the specs on the new not-quite M3 and reiterated what we all knew was going to happen.
The M340i and the Supra share the same engine, BMW’s B58 3.0-liter turbo straight six good for 382 hp and 369 lb-ft. Pretty much all that we dug up as different was the turbo and the oil pump when we delved into the Supra parts roster.

Both cars rock ZF 8-speeds and both send power to the rear wheels. And beyond that all sorts of other Supra parts are BMW items. Even the door locks are shared.

So if you want something that shares the same potential and aftermarket as the Supra, but with a bit more practicality, isn’t the M340i your car?

The M340i achieves a 4.2 0-60 in their XDrive model, they havent release a time for the RWD yet so I am assuming it is slower like Z4 ( ~4.4s).

But gearing plays a huge role in this as well. The ZF 8 Speed is used in a great deal of their cars so they are able to play around with gearing and final drive to achieve their desired figures

Too big. Too many doors. Grille too ugly. Other than that, I'm sure it's great.

"the upcoming rear-drive BMW M3 will have less power than the all-wheel drive model. That’s because its manual gearbox can’t handle the same amount of torque as the ZF eight-speed automatic"

:hmm:

The grill is fine, but what's with the extra doors? Who needs that?
