I wanted to start off this review with saying that the stock Pilot Super sports that came on the car were a great tire. I was able to squeeze 17,400 miles out of mine. I would have gone even further if it wasn't so rainy around here. There was around 3-4/32" left on the tires on all four corners.
First lets start off with availability and pricing. I had every intention of ordering a set of Pilot Sport 4s in the stock specification for my supra when the super sports bit the bullet. The problem, there were literally 0 in stock. I was also looking at about $1400 for a set of 4S' shipped to my house. I have always used Michelin for all of my cars, and I was apprehensive about trying another tire on my supra, as I was very satisfied with the performance of the Michelins that came with the car. The Yokohama's were $723 shipped to my door. Knowing this was a new tire design from Yokohama, first though was if these are about 90% as good as the stock, then I'll be satisfied.
Anyways, onto my review the Yokohama Advan Apex V601. I have had these on my Supra for over 2000 miles now, and can now confidently state, that at the stock tire size, this is a marked improvement over the Michelins.
I started off these tires with an 900 mile road trip, one day after having them mounted. We had very heavy rain on the 450 mile leg back home, and I never once had hydroplaning on the interstate, something the Michelin was very prone to around 65+ mph.
Takeaways from 2000 miles on the Yokohamas:
1: Much quieter than my Michelins (granted they had nearly 18000 miles on them).
2: The comfort of the ride is softer, not that the supra is harsh, but there is an improvement.
3: I'm now getting around 33 mpg on my daily drives, the Michelins had me around 31.5 mpg.
4: As good, if not marginally better in handling. I live in a very rural community with incredibly well maintained roads. I have absolutely no concerns taking these tires to 8/10's on the street.
5: Turn in is quicker on the Yokohama's, makes the car a bit more twitchy at the limit, but I have been able to adjust and no longer have to think about it.
Final Thoughts: Great daily tire. Quiet, comfortable, great handling. And best of all, I can get two sets for the price of the 4S.
