Who noticed the part where it says water-cooled exhaust manifold integrated into the cylinder head for the 6cyl(B58?) ? This is probably why the Z4/Supra B58 head looks different from previous B58 versions.
Still no weight on the 6 cyl.
Odd that they have the weight for the 4 but not the 6....
Seeing as a base 230i AT weighs 3411 and a base 240i AT weighs 3519 = 110 lbs between 4 and 6 cylinder versions.
Z4 M40i should be about 3400 lbs.
Supra should be less (3200 or so) since it doesn't need to be bulked up and have all the extra bracing that a convertible will need.
We’ll be lucky if the Supra is 3,300 pounds. There should only be about 100 pound difference give or take. It’s not as simple as reducing the weight of the roof.
Yikes, they spent $20 million euros on just the rear axel.
There is a 271lb difference between Coupe and convertible versions of the 2 series of the same engine/model. So I would def say there is room to make It to 3200 or less for the Supra. A lot more bracing and such is required for a convertible chassis to give it the rigidity of a coupe chassis, all the weight isn't in the mechanical rag top.
People will believe what they want to believe
I'm sure even when they come out with official numbers people will find other ways to question and hate on the specs.
The car will be ~1400kg/~3080lbs.
Go back a few months and look up the article that talks about the new roof on the z4, the whole thing with the mother was only like 200lbs give or take. On that end Toyota claims they have made the Supra even more rigid than the z4 so the end results won’t be far off. You’ll see.
Talk about people who want to believe what they want to believe....
Yeah.. I think maybe a 100lbs difference. Not the 200-300lbs difference that people are hoping for. And this will probably be one of the last spec they reveal just like what we are seeing with the Z4. Just like everything else being middle of the ground with this car.. I don’t see this being any different.
It will already naturally be more rigid than a z4 due to it having A,B,C pillars and a roof......
So are you saying that’s what Toyota meant by more of rigid and a more focused sports car than a z4? So the only difference is coupe vs convertible? I’ve been kind of saying that for awhile now but people didn’t like that version lol.
Btw, all of that has weight to it, that’s where the difference starts to narrow between the two. Let’s not forget that a hatch adds extra weight a convertible doesn’t have. This is not a convertible to trunk comparison, it’s a convertible to hatch.
