Oh and if Toyota actually named the car S-FR I wouldn't be surprised if they actually lose some sales because of it and not calling it the Supra name that everyone wants and expects.

^ I could see this possibly happening the first year but what will make sales for this car is a) what type of car Toyota gives us. B) what the cost of that car will be.

Naming it Supra and giving us a car that cannot live up to the name is a bust, that can cost sales + brand reputation.

Toyota FR concept reportedly headed to Tokyo

Could preview a production model

Toyota will reportedly unveil a new FR concept at the Tokyo Motor Show.

According to Motoring, the concept will preview a sporty coupe which will slot below the Toyota 86. Little else is known about the car but it will reportedly be a front-engine, rear-wheel drive vehicle that weighs less than 980 kg (2,160 lbs).

The car is reportedly being developed with the assistance of four-time World Rally Championship winner Tommi Makinen and is rumored to use a naturally-aspirated 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that develops approximately 130 PS (128 bhp / 96 kW).

If everything pans out, the model will go on sale in early 2017.

Can't wait. If the rumors are true this is going to be an awesome Tokyo show. Hoping an official Supra concept drops alongside this sub 86 concept. Also maybe some Nissan Z related news I read.

Hope we see a teaser or two in the meantime for any Toyota concepts they're gonna debut. Show is still 2 months away...

Toyota has just today trademarked the "Supra" name with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) which controls and enforces all trademarks for the European Union. As the attached filings show, the owner/registrant is Toyota Jidosha Kabushiki Kaisha (AKA Toyota Motor Corporation).

The Nice Classification (established by the Nice Agreement (1957) as system of classifying goods and services for the purpose of registering trademarks) is "Class 12" which is "Vehicles; apparatus for locomotion by land, air or water," leaving no doubt that this filing is intended for use on the upcoming Supra automobile.

The trademark was filed with the Iceland office of the EUIPO today June 3, 2016.

This European trademark filing follows two years after the filing of the Supra name with the USPTO (US Patent and Trademark Office) that we reported back in February 2014, and is a good sign that we are getting closer to the revival of the fabled Toyota Supra!

Good to know the Supra name is more than just "on the table" but they are still intending on using it.

Awesome news. We're getting closer :headbang:

Anyone know if the Supra developed the same reputation in Europe as in North America?

In Europe, other than true JDM fans, nobody knows what the Supra is. All they know is VW, Audi, BMW, Mercedes and Porsche.

Same for the GT-R? Shame if true. They would be missing out on sports car legends.
