Hi everyone,

as the title states…. What’s the best way to get Toyota to update my car. I’ve been suffering with the well documented issue with throttle hesitation that appears to be resolved with a software update.

I’ve heard they are a pain to get them to update the car. Some people have said to just say that apple CarPlay keeps disconnecting.

can places other than Toyota update the cars? Is it the same software as the Z4? And if so can a bmw specialist do it or some other indi? I’m happy to pay…..

Cheers.

Toyota has never addressed the throttle hesitation. The update does not mean it will fix it.

I have the a91 mt and i do think on sports mode, the throttle seems a bit more clunky than normal mode. can anyone with a manual confirm this ?

People that have had this issue have reported back and not had it present itself for months post update. If you look in the “throttle hesitation” thread on here you’ll see a bunch of people that have had it resolved from the update.

This issue a few people are having is more, you press the throttle and the car just rolls forward for 2/3 seconds no matter how hard you mash the pedal, the suddenly boom full power. I’ve had it happen a few times, once leaving me rolling out of a junction on a 60!

It may have been a by product of it. But Toyota never put out a recall or stated the issue exists in their system.

Has anyone tried a pedal commander to correct the issue? I've been thinking about getting one.

Throwing a crispy $20 bill at the local homeless person would be more effective. If will not change input “lag”, imaginary or not.
The word I’ve gathered about them is it only changes the sensor response on how far the pedal is pushed. Basically the spot that was 10% throttle is now 15%. So literally just stepping on it more will do the same.

Unless you’re a #ShortKing and can’t reach the floor, then absolutely go for it.

I have the same 6MT and can confirm. it's a big clunky, but my question is, wouldn't a tune fix this?

Yes and they probably never will….. they don’t even seem to get any notes per iStep update. Also being a random issue it’s very hard to reproduce. It’s a bit of a mess on their end.

There's no fix, because it's not an issue. Never has been. It's a design feature.

When it happens, just hold partial throttle until the power comes after a second or two, and be on your way.

Are you on about the manual or auto for a start?

I’m not sure what you’ve been smoking but last time I checked full throttle and the car not moving at all for up to 3 seconds is not a feature. Rolling out into traffic is dangerous.

This and the fact it HAS been fixed and is well documented to have been fixed in the latest iStep by many many users on this forum. It’s a problem with the traction control system, you can actually avoid it doing this by turning TCS off.

Again do some reading before you comment on a thread you clearly know nothing about….
