if they want to sell more of them, they would need to lower the price... adding to prestige/image =/= profit.

that said, maybe they dont care about that and instead just want a premium halo car.

it is most certainly the latter. they aren't the go to brand for rwd coupes, it was always going to be an uphill battle. lexus already has several money makers so arguably the lc is really just a halo car. plus, they already had the idea of limiting production to begin with which says something

right, they care about image and sure, lexus may not have the same pedigree as the germans in many people's eyes, but it still doesn't mean they need to price their products lower. if anything, keeping it higher will just make such cars like the lc more exclusive which indirectly adds to their prestige & image
Higher price is fine and all, but they also need to offer products that justify the asking price tag. I hate to keep going back to this, but a prime example is the GS-F and how Lexus dealers have to knock $20k off in-order to move them.

well, they arent doing too bad then, but I think if the idea is around image and prestige alone, then they need to get more power under the hood :D
Totally agree!

sure, but cars like the RCF/GSF/LC aren't Lexus's bread & butter. if they really cared about sales for such models, the GS would have been axed a long time ago but instead they ended the IS F production and introduced the GS F at a $20 K premium. don't think they really care :dunno: plus you all are merely looking at this as performance per dollar whereas lexus has never played that game, they are trying to give you a more substantial overall package beyond the numbers..can't put a price on build quality/reliability/DD comfort

No it's not their bread and butter, but you still need some kind of sales to justified future product development. Akio still has a board he has to answer to. The GS430 was the fastest sedan at one time; we need to go back to those days. I wouldn't go put Lexus on a pedestal. They had quite a bit of quality issues in recent years. I would know first hand from owning a RX and GS. If Lexus wants to continue making reskin comfy Toyotas that's fine. It's best to just leave the performance to the Germans. Sure you can, Mercedes does and people actually buy them. :p

This! If they made some badass cars that people actually want that would boast their image and standing.

this report says Gazoo will be involved with the next GSF, so it does seems that Toyota realize that they need to offered more performance.

http://www.motortrend.com/news/toyota-plotting-next-generation-of-sports-cars/

Gazoo is now involved in tuning the Lexus “F” models, specifically the next-generation GS-F.

“We are looking at what kind of target audience the car has, what tone and manner, how much understeer and oversteer balance,”Tomoyama said. “The cars have to run faster, and that tuning is already (in place). Even within Lexus, we may have different models which have different tuning.”

'F' falls under the Gazoo banner (has for around a year or so now) despite their budgets falling under different divisions, so it more or less goes without saying that they would be involved.

I think what Tomoyama is saying is that regular F treatment is no longer enough and that more GRMN race elements are going to trickle down into development.
