A while back, one of the TMS USA managers that speaks with me here and there for info on development said the RC will likely get the axe.

The IS on the other hand is gtg in all formats :D

I'm actually wondering why the Supra wasn't an RC variant. I guess Toyota felt the inline six was necessary like every previous Supra.
because landyacht... it weighs 4,060lbs and people complain now about 3,397 lol. The LC is even worse at 4,400lbs...

Someone made a shootingbrake Supra. Not sure how I feel about it.

Go drive one; that will answer your question. :p

On a serious note there are rumors of Lexus cancelling a replacement for the RC. Sales have tanked big time. If true, a rebadged Lexus Supra may not be too farfetch.

2014: 1,922
2015: 14,784
2016: 11,165
2017: 7,363
2018: 3,358
I think the fresher Q60 and A5 is taking a bite of RC's sales.

Q60
2017 - 10,751
2018 - 8,405

A5
2017 - 21,301
2018 - 25,972

I mean, I bought the Q50RS over the RCF... I would have done Q60 if it didn't come in 4dr, so ISF wouldn't have been purchased either lol.

The Q is around 250lbs lighter in AWD guise, and even more so in RWD, and you have an easily tunable turbo motor and much sportier handling. They occupy the market far closer to BMW IMO, despite common comparisons between Lexus and BMW.

I've always felt that Lexus is more like the M-Benz of Japan.

Agreed. Although MB currently has a real sports car in their lineup (AMG GT, what an awesome car). Lexus apparently does not care for the "911-ish" segment.

R.I.P RC. It was a cool looking coupe when it first came out. After a test drive, I walked out of the lot as quick as I could and didn't turn around.

Targa lovers, that's your cue.

Following its American debut at Detroit in January, the new Toyota Supra enjoyed its maiden European appearance at Geneva to generally positive feedback. While some are still not entirely sold on the exterior styling, everyone's excited by the coupe’s claimed driving and performance capabilities thanks to its track-tuned suspension and turbocharged inline-six engine. The new turnkey, track-only Supra GT4, for example, promises to be an incredible experience. We caught up with Tada-san, chief test driver for the Supra program, at the Swiss show and asked what areas he still thinks are in need of some refinement.

"Just as any other automakers are doing with their sports cars, such as Porsche, there is gradually improvement to the engine but if you only work on the engine then that kind of distorts the balance of the overall car. So we need to also retune and upgrade other parts like the rigidity of the body and suspension tuning.”

When it comes to potential body style derivatives, like a targa in the spirit of the legendary fourth generation Supra, Tada-san and his team would obviously be required to make many necessary adjustments. And speaking of a targa top, we asked Tada-san whether this is something Toyota has planned at some point during the Supra’s projected long life (hint: the Toyota 86/Subaru BRZ have been around for nearly eight years).

"Although we receive requests from customers for an open version or a targa top, the reason why we decided on the coupe is because we can achieve the highest rigidity and lightest weight. But if we receive enough requests for a targa version then we will raise (the idea),” Tada-san said.

For the record, this writer immediately raised his hand. Tada-san laughed, nodded, and took note. We hope there are more hand raisers out there.

I would LOVE a targa. Only one issue. My wife is allergic to the sun, so I could never have it open when she's with me
