...replaced by the dealership -- all were customer pay. One of my personal favorite technician notes was, "Customer believes the issue is the oilpump based on Supra forum posts" ? phenomenal!!
I think I may make a separate thread on this eventually to stop hijacking other people's posts, get...
The plastic pump mainly affects 2020 cars with some 2021s. So go 2022 if this is a concern, like on a used car lot. Or buy the extended warranty for a 2020/2021 model or ask a private seller of a 2020/21 if the oilpump was ever replaced.
Yeah it’s going to show the updated part number because that’s the only one you can order now. Being a 2020 you most definitely have the outdated oilpump
There have been people in the forums who had the oilpump warrantied even with a tune. Wouldn't hurt to check. The dealership did diagnostics on my car and it produced the oil pressure issue intermittently. Best of luck.
That is funny because normally BMW parts would be far more expensive than Toyota parts! I guess Toyota needs to buy the part from BMW and then slap it in a Toyota box, give it a new part number and then apply a nice mark-up. Toyota is literally the middle man here. ?♂️
Impossible! ToYOtA...
...Around here, they essentially have no idea how to work on a "BMW". Maybe big cities are different, but not around here.
Anyway, as soon as I actually get it into the dealer and they figure out what's wrong and the fix (which we know will probably be the oilpump), I will update this thread.
The video was very good, I am worried about my pump too and am holding off on doing anything until this issue gets addressed. Some have the issue around 10k, ive heard even 30k miles as well.
Suck that it has to be like this but I'd rather be safe than sorry, not risking the warranty I had to...
...issues a pass/fail outcome which determines whether or not you're eligible for the warranty.
In the video that I made that another user shared, I have the full parts list that it took to do this job. It's a lot more than just the oilpump. There's also about $400 in one time use fasteners ??
@kern417 — I’m unable to get any oil read out in BimmerLink at any time. From your research and videos on this, could this be reflective of an oil sensor issue separate from the pump? Appreciate any thoughts you have on this.
As I said I'm tuned so my warranty won't be useable. My main concern is paying out all this money to find I have the upgraded part already. US and EU cars aren't the same so it's a possibility that we have the upgraded part over here as it was already in use on the Z4's over here in 2019/20...
I went through this whole song and dance with my 2020 MY in Canada. The oilpump is most likely the culprit and I highly doubt your car has the updated pump from factory. If you are under warranty you should get this sorted out with them. As my car was producing oil pressure related issues. Just...
So this is pretty hilarious but I got quoted £1350 from Toyota for the OilPump (pn 15100-WAA03). So I called BMW and asked the price on their OilPump (pn 11419895359) and they quoted me £419.
That's less than a third of the price!
