I had the same error message on the dash. Below is a summary of what the issue was for me. I have no idea if this is your issue, good luck though:
There were two problems, both caused by me: The first was the cold air intake, where it connects to the turbo/engine was loose letting in more air...
I’m sure you could drop the subframe with floor jacks and have it in and out within a days time. I have a lift so it made it so much easier being able to sit on a rolling chair and work. Being my first time I was able to get all the panels off and drop the subframe in like 4 hours and replace...
nice! I am glad that worked, I have never used one of these before and I was worried if I ever had to replace my oilpump I would have to buy a specific one to fit the Supra.
I almost want to preemptively replace mine
I just went and got one from habor freight, I’ll probably never use it again lol. Bought it solely for this one job. Unless some how I break another oilpump.
I sent you this as a message, but once I consolidated it, I figured I might as well put it down for posterity, in case anyone was curious.
I posted 08/12/2024:
After getting towed in 08/12/2024 they Told me they were going to start an official oil consumption test. I was pretty annoyed...
...3.0 has been at the dealership due to the oil consumption issue for about 3 months. They replaced 6 piston assemblies, the water pump, the oilpump, and a ton of seals/gaskets.
I was expecting the battery to die, because I didn't think the dealer would maintain it while it was sitting for...
Shawn will do anything and everything he can to not cover his products after they’ve been shipped. Same with Tony Vargas. If you want a hybrid, go with Pure. Otherwise go full frame.
yes, I see large puffs of smoke when I pull hard in higher gears ? Shawn thinks it’s the oilpump that is inconsistent between cars and in some cars sends too much oil to the turbo
Nice! I was able to BARELY break 6. The goal for next year will be to break 5.
No not yet. After installing the restrictor, I still am seeing smoke again. I have been logging and have lost about 5mm of oil level across 500km (full is 96mm raw oil level).
Shawn is going to send me an oil drain...

btw, your oil smoke problem is fixed?
You're right idk why I wrote vacuum pump when I meant brake booster. Our oil and vacuum pumps are the same part. The recall affected both the oil/vacuum pump and brake booster is what I meant to say.
Toyota thought the brake booster was at fault but it was the oil/vacuum pump. I'll edit my post
...and I appreciate it. The failure mode may not have been the same, but my head is in a place where I'm just baseline suspicious of all B58TU oilpumps.
Trying to imagine what happened: It's also possible that some of the polymer pump supply bled into the next model year's parts pool, which...
The vacuum pump and oilpump are both located "in a shared housing" - I don't think you can replace one without the replacing the other...

...vacuum pump and my problem still persisted. They took the L and apologized and gave me a refund on the vacuum pump and I had to replace the oilpump at the end of the day. The recall definitely damaged both parts. My vacuum pump's valve was also damaged and they replaced that for free for me...
I see no proof he even had the polymer pump. Where's the photos and repair order notes? Pumps can fail for other reasons. I remain skeptical in the other direction.
I know you know your shit, so I'm not going to argue with you. I just gotta see specific evidence to be swayed.
I remain unconvinced that this issue is solved in post-20 B58TU engines. Here is a '21 Supra with a failed oilpump replaced under warranty.

In what context? Only the older ones had the breakable plastic piece in the oilpump, and if any MKVs were potentially affected (in the US), it was the earliest MY 2020s. Otherwise we all have the updated pump, and nothing to worry about.
This recall and potential issue ONLY affected the...
