2020 here…… My oilpump took a crap a few months ago. I’m out of the 5 year warranty. Dealer wanted $5500 to replace and alignment .
I asked 3 dealers for a goodwill repair since the car has 20k miles. No luck.
If you’re still under the 5 year, get it replaced under warranty.
Going the...
2021 with 81k miles. Been driving it for past 5 years even in winters. Checked oil level other day with no issues, and have done 25+ track days in last 2 years.
Not sure on my build date, but I took delivery in December of 2020.
Might start buying parts to add to list of maintenance to do next...
Was unable to read oil level since the day I got the car (~23,000 when bought) - CEL, limp mode, and oilpump codes at ~31,500 at which point I replaced it.
Paid right at $2,000 from a 3rd party shop, smooth sailing since.
As a 2020 owner at 14k miles my pump is thankfully still good. I am curious how many other 2020 owners or early 21 have the same oem oilpump and is still working, if so what mileage?
Hard to say- BM3 being BM3 had broken RAM channels for oil pressure up until earlier this year.
but at 25k miles (now 37k) I installed the HPFP and the exhaust cam has been a problem child up until recently.
Hopefully you never have to worry about your pump, but it seems like oil temps were...
Finally got around to doing some proper testing on the ZTK pump at The Circuit at Button Willow to compare it against my old plastic adjusting ring pump. I haven’t seen any real data showing the ZTK pump having higher output, so this was a good chance to find out for myself.
Shout-out to...
...got a complaint and would have had to cut at least 30mm off it.
Other than that we are just going to drop the sump to put in the updated oilpump, mine still has the 2019 one and is starting to fail oil level checks, and check and replace rod bearings while we're in there.
I did start...
My oil has gone a quart in 1k miles. Also the coolant 3 times topped off in the same time . Hopefully I get to find it's something fairly simple and not too expensive 🤷
I have not. With it being both coolant and oil consumption I figured either a leak, engine head gasket or pcv to be honest. Worth checking the pump for sure

I see all these comments about the "Plastic oilpump" - however we still do not have root cause for this issue, and assumptions are being made (rightly so) that the upgraded pump fixes the issue.
However, I have seen on the BMW forums and even this one where the pump had trouble reading the...
Yes, agreed, unrelated. I couldn’t find any date ranges here other than mid 2020 builds. But lots of dates on the B58 forums. Well known problem there and BMW even had their version of a TSB out, which they later yanked from their data base.
...- once at 5000 miles and another at 14000. I perform the oil measurement function every week, especially since I’m on the original plastic oilpump - measures to 100% every time with no issues. Differential fluid was changed at 16500 miles on 3/2025 with Motul Gear 300 75W90. I needlessly...
Hey, Timo, might I suggest Sunnyvale Toyota? Their Supra tech is well-versed in the oilpump issue and will start a case with Toyota right away to at least verify the troubleshooting steps. As long as it's started before your powertrain warranty is over, you should be fine. And even if it isn't...
The DME being locked or unlocked isn’t tied to the affected engines. I have a MY2021 built in March 2020 with a plastic oilpump. The estimated production date range has been covered ad nauseam in this forum.
...to be that way. Everyone with a 2021 built in 2020 after they locked the ECU should routinely check the oil level. Your car likely has an oilpump with plastic internals, specifically the retaining ring goes bad. When the computer stops doing it, bring the car in ASAFP. The 5 yr power train...
