  1. A90 Toyota Supra vs G29 BMW Z4 Drag Race, Rolling Race & Brake Test

Last word I saw from him on that said there were over 30 pre-production models built, but slim chance it would go on sale in the US. What about that is wrong? Was it less than 30? Is it really coming? Don't think so.
  2. A90 Toyota Supra vs G29 BMW Z4 Drag Race, Rolling Race & Brake Test

He already has a a proven track record. Very few people have been as well validated as this guy, and in full view of the public no less. You actually won't be able to find any place where he's been wrong in the past, if you truly take a look.
  3. A90 Toyota Supra vs G29 BMW Z4 Drag Race, Rolling Race & Brake Test

This person, who has been 100% on the mark with information for years. https://www.supramkv.com/threads/bmw-insider-385-hp-supra-model-is-coming.1785/ He also posts here occasionally. Most people here are so pro-Toyota they don't even give the information a chance, but his track record is...
  4. A90 Toyota Supra vs G29 BMW Z4 Drag Race, Rolling Race & Brake Test

I am hoping the right person comes along to explain this with credibility, but I stand by my statement that the ECU was programmed by BMW. No offense to Toyota by saying that (and I can't believe anyone would take offense). The real proof will be when the higher-power Supra comes along in the...
  5. A90 Toyota Supra vs G29 BMW Z4 Drag Race, Rolling Race & Brake Test

Actually, it's the opposite, the headifold puts additional load on the cooling system. It's there to extract heat from the exhaust to improve cold engine behavior and emissions, and potentially to cool the exhaust so that the cat can be made more efficiently and/or operate more efficiently...
  6. A90 Toyota Supra vs G29 BMW Z4 Drag Race, Rolling Race & Brake Test

I haven't either, but it adds a lot of complexity that is only justified when chasing emissions goals (the other benefits such as weight reduction are minor). It will definitely limit what a tuner can do since they have less flexibility to rework the head.
  7. A90 Toyota Supra vs G29 BMW Z4 Drag Race, Rolling Race & Brake Test

Yep, correct. Now, the thing is, the headifold is not necessarily a plus for the Supra and could even be considered a disadvantage. It's primarily a strategy for better emissions. It will make tuning more challenging and certainly engine mods like porting/etc will become more of a challenge...
  8. A90 Toyota Supra vs G29 BMW Z4 Drag Race, Rolling Race & Brake Test

The companies only parted ways on the styling and suspension tuning. The rest is all BMW, again, about the same if it was another BMW model. The engine is all BMW but the ECU tune was done to meet Toyota's specs (not by Toyota). Any differences in the engine are the same as you'd find between...
  9. A90 Toyota Supra vs G29 BMW Z4 Drag Race, Rolling Race & Brake Test

Yes, but Toyota did not do the ECU programming -- make sure you understand that. It's different, in the sense that there are at least two dozen different programs for the B58. But to take this as a sign that Toyota is doing something better would be extremely naive. In reality, this result is...
  10. A90 Toyota Supra vs G29 BMW Z4 Drag Race, Rolling Race & Brake Test

I would expect the Z4 aerodynamics to be worse at higher speeds (it looks like more of a brick) but that's just a suspicion (has anyone published drag coefficient for either car?). It wouldn't matter in a 1/4 mile but at higher speeds it could become a factor.
  11. A90 Toyota Supra vs G29 BMW Z4 Drag Race, Rolling Race & Brake Test

I would love to see a comparison with US-spec cars, as the US Z4 dynos higher than the US Supra by 30-40HP. I don't think that is the case for the euro-spec cars.
  12. U.S. Supra Ordering: Pricing and Availability Details! Have You Ordered?

    Wow, no-load over-revving, what a loser.
  13. BWM M2 True Cost of Ownership: Where will the Supra differ?

I just spelled it out up above. If you can't read or do math you'll just have to take my word for it. I am not even sure what you are arguing about anymore.
  14. BWM M2 True Cost of Ownership: Where will the Supra differ?

Both local BMW dealers here in SE Virginia are about the same price range for service. For reference, we typically pay $60-80 for an oil change and tire rotation on our Honda and GMC. BMW is more in the $120-150 range for the same thing.
  15. 2020 Supra Documents Added to TIS

Interesting -- BMWs with the B58 list 89 octane as the minimum. I wonder how much the max HP number is dependent on this. The engines will adjust timing based on octane (or rather, detection of detonation related to octane) so it's conceivable this plays into the rated HP number. Makes me...
  16. BWM M2 True Cost of Ownership: Where will the Supra differ?

Oh, and as far as my maintenance costs, it was covered by BMW for the first 4 years. The last 4 were all basic/routine maintenance consisting of oil changes air filter, brake fluid, etc, which I did myself (no tire rotations due to directional tires, but they wore extremely well). Even if I...
  17. BWM M2 True Cost of Ownership: Where will the Supra differ?

I never said you said tires were $3300 a year. I am saying that the Edmunds costs in year 4 and year 5 are clearly *not* tires, both because of the prices ($3300-3900) and because of it happening back to back two years in a row. It should be obvious from my previous posts. Edmunds is...
  18. Toyota Gazoo Racing to Commence Sales of GR Supra GT4 in 2020

I guess they were OK with the fake vents after all.....
  19. BWM M2 True Cost of Ownership: Where will the Supra differ?

There's no way tires amount to $3300 in year 4 and $3900 in year 5 per Edmunds. I have some crazy rare tires on my M40i (my mistake for going with 21" wheels) and even those aren't that nuts.
  20. BWM M2 True Cost of Ownership: Where will the Supra differ?

I'd be curious to know where they got the maintenance and repair costs -- those are insane and not even close to my experience with BMWs. The longest I owned a BMW was 8 years and it never took more than routine maintenance the whole time. Even if I had done it at the BMW dealer it wouldn't...
