  1. Smoking from exhaust

04/13/25 Oil pump is installed and oil level procedure correctly goes through. Install was only a day 1/2 so not bad. Whining noise at low speed is also gone. Thanks to all who responded to forum
  2. ANOTHER OIL THREAD (Actual information doe)

Your absolutely right that Toyota thoroughly tests their oil they specify, but why does Toyota only spec 0w-20 for the GR86 in the US but in Australia they also spec 5w-20 and 5-w30 for the same car with the same engine? Does oil work differently in Australia then the in the US? Toyota even says...
  3. ANOTHER OIL THREAD (Actual information doe)

...Toyota master technician and owner of an independent shop created a video in which he explains reasons for thinner synthetic oils. One is an oil pump system that monitors oil pressure and flow. A thicker oil would eventually prevent it from working properly. Lake Speed recommends that having...
  4. DIY Clutch Delay Valve (CDV) Removal

It's for the brakes themselves. Clutch shares the same fluid. Get a turkey baster syringe thingy and keep it with the bleeder in the box so you can suck some fluid out if it gets too full after the job if needed. I keep everything in the box to help keep it clean.
  5. DIY Clutch Delay Valve (CDV) Removal

Just an update: I was finally able to get the job done! I am not a fan of the Motive pressure pumps although others seem of recommend them. I am not sure if this is a known fact but I had to purchase a separate plumber seal tape to seal the metal valve in the middle of the tube. (Only realized...
  6. Anyone mess around with 60-130 times?

Oh no, I know about the secret menu! It's just quicker and almost as accurate to do the "range divided by average MPG" than to go into the secret menu every time I stop at the pump.
  7. “Engine Oil Pressure Too Low”

What is your oil pressure (PSI or bar) reading for idle, part throttle, and wide open throttle on BM3?
  8. “Engine Oil Pressure Too Low”

...the low oil pressure warning come on and was unable to check oil level in the Toyota oil settings. Found this thread and thought it was my oil pump. BM3 oil pressures are normal. I'm out of warranty with miles and mods so cost will be on me. Debating if I need to change out the pump as when I...
  9. “Engine Oil Pressure Too Low”

Not clear on what you are asking. Do you just want to know what OEM oil pressure setpoint is when everything is working correctly? Here you go. It's in hPa to convert to PSI and subtract your ambient pressure depending on how you are logging.
  10. “Engine Oil Pressure Too Low”

The pump failsafes to high pressure, so if you are seeing abnormally high pressure...
  11. “Engine Oil Pressure Too Low”

Has anyone seen abnormal pressure measurements in BM3 when the oil pump is damaged but still functional?
  12. “Engine Oil Pressure Too Low”

Did you do the I level update with or without the updated metal pump? Or did you replace it? Curious if I should get ahead of this as a preventative measure. No issues and works fine. Also don't have the dealer recall DME update. 7/19 build date.
  13. Smoking from exhaust

Dealers, how to organise the dumbest most costly indirect route to the solution. Phil
  14. Smoking from exhaust

Update 4-7-25 Oil control valve didn’t fix issue of course. They said they sent all the info over to Toyota and they approved the oil pump. Of course back order no eta but so were the level sensor and control valve lol. So now oil pump is ordered and just waiting for the text to have it...
  15. ANOTHER OIL THREAD (Actual information doe)

I'd add that beating on the car for extended periods of time. In Southern Cali, this is a recipe for a reckless driving charge. I'd add ..."driving normally, most of the time with occasional brief bursts of speed beyond 100 mph." If your oil temps are spiking beyond 230 or 240°F, then your...
  16. ANOTHER OIL THREAD (Actual information doe)

I didn't see it posted in this thread but thought this was a good read lots of info summaized in one place, I believe this is from a credible source: https://www.bimmerworld.com/BMW-Engine-Oil/#oilrecs Also see bimmerworlds oil recommendations attached. So the takeaway is if you frequently...
  17. DINANTRONICS X In-line Performance Tuners for the Toyota GR Supra

Does oil temps rise beyond typical levels? (220 degrees or so) Pump gas octane level in CA maxes out at 91 octane, unfortunately.
  18. Cannot measure oil

Thanks to this thread and this forum, I had Toyota replace my oil pump under warranty. Had the same symptom of the oil measurement procedure crapping out around 30%, told Toyota that was the issue and that the forums suggested this is a sign of the oil pump failing, took them two weeks to...
  19. Do I need a new motor?

This is the optimal way to drive on E50 - as the heat generated by the constant load will often burn off any moisture in the oil caused by the phase separation properties of the E50. The guys who run ethanol but only take their car out on the weekends to a car meet or a grocery store are the...
  20. Do I need a new motor?

Yea I have a friend that also has a mk5 that said it definitely isn't a common problem. Do you always run close to E50 daily?
