  1. Oil pump tsb?

I see all these comments about the "Plastic oil pump" - however we still do not have root cause for this issue, and assumptions are being made (rightly so) that the upgraded pump fixes the issue. However, I have seen on the BMW forums and even this one where the pump had trouble reading the...
  2. Oil pump tsb?

Yes, agreed, unrelated. I couldn’t find any date ranges here other than mid 2020 builds. But lots of dates on the B58 forums. Well known problem there and BMW even had their version of a TSB out, which they later yanked from their data base.
  3. Updated oil pump?

Thanks a lot for the suggestion. I’m gonna give it a shot !!
  4. Build complete! But…might be moving platforms… Pricing advice? (Warning: long post with lots of photos!)

...- once at 5000 miles and another at 14000. I perform the oil measurement function every week, especially since I’m on the original plastic oil pump - measures to 100% every time with no issues. Differential fluid was changed at 16500 miles on 3/2025 with Motul Gear 300 75W90. I needlessly...
  5. Updated oil pump?

Hey, Timo, might I suggest Sunnyvale Toyota? Their Supra tech is well-versed in the oil pump issue and will start a case with Toyota right away to at least verify the troubleshooting steps. As long as it's started before your powertrain warranty is over, you should be fine. And even if it isn't...
  6. Oil pump tsb?

The DME being locked or unlocked isn’t tied to the affected engines. I have a MY2021 built in March 2020 with a plastic oil pump. The estimated production date range has been covered ad nauseam in this forum.
  7. Oil pump tsb?

...to be that way. Everyone with a 2021 built in 2020 after they locked the ECU should routinely check the oil level. Your car likely has an oil pump with plastic internals, specifically the retaining ring goes bad. When the computer stops doing it, bring the car in ASAFP. The 5 yr power train...
  8. Oil pump tsb?

Good shit, bro’. Glad you’re getting it taking care of in warranty.
  9. Oil pump tsb?

...the first dealer refused to do anything further "without codes"), they were able to duplicate the bad pressure numbers obtained by my Indie BMW shop (and confirmed by BMW Tech Support as needing a new oil pump IF it was a Z4 - hah!) and it has been approved for a warranty oil pump replacement.
  10. Race Tracking Your Supra - Information exchange

I haven't yet, but I am a sample of one. ;) I do have a 2020 though so it's probably just a matter of when, even if I didn't increase oil pressure. If/when my pump fails, I will probably swap it with a ZTK pump. There are two tables that set the max/min oil pressure that will trigger an error...
  11. Race Tracking Your Supra - Information exchange

It shouldn't really fluctuate much. PID is there for it to hit target, just like boost control. There is also an offset table that is used to up pressure for Vanos depending on load and rpm. OEM it's set to increase oil pressure around 3000-4500rpm When I defined the Oil Pressure Setpoint I...

Thank you for posting the PID tables. I didn’t realize setpoint was in absolute- I’m surprised WOT is that low for stock parameters. I noticed that my oil pressure targets varied in my logs at similar RPM’s, so I figured that targets were dynamic- I just wasn’t sure what exactly influenced it...
  13. Updated oil pump?

...the warranty period the manufacturer can't just fob you off if it fails far earlier than what is considered a reasonable life. So the Supra oil pump falls into this category. An oil pump should reasonably be expected to last the life of the engine and if it fails before that then it's not...
  14. Updated oil pump?

I am frequently on the G20 forums and I haven’t seen anything notable yet. Forums represent a small sample size of owners though, and I imagine unless BMW extends the warranty it will be situational. My warranty just ended, and if the oil pump died tomorrow I wouldn’t attempt bringing it to Toyota.

are there any corrective tables that influence oil pressure? I’ve always had oil pressure issues both with/without the Verus oil cooler and just never manage to hit oil pressure targets once oil temperature hits 260F. Currently experimenting with 5w50 to see if this helps.
  16. Updated oil pump?

True. I should've phrased that better. Still, do we know how BMW is dealing with the B58TUs plastic oil pump issue for those out of warranty? I haven't had a chance yet to dig around the BMW forums or reddit to find out.
  17. Race Tracking Your Supra - Information exchange

The oil pump is electronically tied into the DME. It has pressure set point tables and full PID control.
  18. Race Tracking Your Supra - Information exchange

Have you actually changed the oil pump or just running a thicker viscosity oil? Are you trying to avoid deviations +-3 degrees or want it tighter?
  19. Updated oil pump?

My guess is they don't know how to run the check. They probably don't know it's supposed to go to 100%. They run it, it stops at 23% or whatever (mine was 16%) and then it says Oil Level OK, so they think it's ok. Most Toyota dealerships are clueless about this car, even 5 years later. If you...
  20. Updated oil pump?

Just an update so far. One dealership in concord didn’t want to take the car because it’s too low. The other one, one city over, had the car for two days. The first day they just checked with the car running and were able to run the oil. You can read the oil level when the engine has been...
