I believe you will have to at least remove the airbag to replace that part. Held in by 4 tabs as I recall.

How are these installed?

You need to depress the pin with either a screwdriver or pick tool and pull the connectors apart

Slight smell from time to time but nothing significant

Did you confirm the valve was open when you pulled the fuse?

This function only works with a jb4 installed?

Sounds like you have 1 released on each side but there are 2 clips when working the right side, 1 of those is most likely not released.
