I realize this is over a year after you posted this, but the R8 does have a setting to power off automatically so you don't have to keep unplugging it.

Update: this seems to be caused by battery drain. I had my radar detector wired to power that did not turn on/ off with the ignition so it was staying on 24/7. Once I corrected the situation the passenger side comfort access behaves as expected.

@djikigai Any chance you have the Bimmercode app and can check the values your car has? I'm curious if your model year (or maybe your region) has different defaults than others.
