  1. 4 Cylinder B48 Supra vs the Straight Six B58

$43k is about the max I'd go for 2.0 with lsd and Brembos. $43k without those, not as interested. Not really thinking about getting 3.0. Too much mass, too many $$$... Experience I had with the 550hp FD kinda informed me that I don't really need killer power/weight. I broke a drive shaft at...
  2. 4 Cylinder B48 Supra vs the Straight Six B58

WAY too heavy to be a modern FD...
  3. 4 Cylinder B48 Supra vs the Straight Six B58

I never said it had to be named "RX". Coulda called it something else like "QX-7". Or "Franklin". But then again the "experimental" part of the RX name wasn't true either anyway! Wait, maybe it actually was... FD is one of my favorite cars also, but obviously I had no qualms about dropping...
  4. 4 Cylinder B48 Supra vs the Straight Six B58

The existence of a lower-performance 4-cylinder model doesn't make the 6-cylinder any less of a car, and it might allow it to continue to exist... I don't know of anyone who thinks that the MkIV turbo is less valuable or less desirable because the NA model existed. I don't think previous GT-Rs...
  5. 2021 Supra Prices Revealed!

Point taken from alla you guys. At $43k with limited slip and fixed-caliper Brembos I'd be interested in the 2.0, without those it'd need to be $40k or less. Here's to 2022 I guess ;)
  6. 2021 Supra Prices Revealed!

LS is not a heavy powerplant. My V8 FD was a street car, with a/c, p/s, full interior, plus heavier-than-stock bigger wheels/tires and brakes and a ~65 lb. 4-point roll bar. Looking at my notes here it weighed 2949 lb. with 3/4 tank of fuel (15 gallons). Full tank would put it around 2980 lb...
  7. 2021 Supra Prices Revealed!

Car would get aftermarket coilovers anyway, so stock suspension not so important. Main reason I want the better brakes is for pad swaps, as far as braking performance, I'm sure the lower-spec brakes with appropriate track pads and fluid will whoa the car as well as the bigger Brembos. So for...
  8. 2021 Supra Prices Revealed!

Some enthusiasts are more interested in light weight than in max power. I'm more interested in the <3200 lb. 4-cylinder than the 3400 lb. six *because* I'm an enthusiast. That said, I'm less interested at $43k with open diff, sliding single-piston brakes, and still a bit overweight...
  9. U.S.-Market Toyota Supra Four-Cylinder Officially Announced

My impression at ft86club.com is there are a *lot* of middle-aged and older FT86 owners, and surprisingly few younger owners. I'm 52 for whatever that's worth... I don't think the Civic Si appeals to the same crowd, being wrong-wheel-drive and all...
  10. 2021 Toyota Supra 2.0 Dyno Results

Agree, that's how they should market it, I doubt they will make a big deal about the weight loss as it would imply the 3.0 is "heavy". 2.0 exists to sell more cars, and the number of potential customers who are interested specifically because it's 200 lb. lighter is very small, myself and a...
  11. 2021 Toyota Supra 2.0 Dyno Results

I think I would, but agree that it shouldn't be that profound a difference, really. But for sure I'm more interested in the car at 3200 lb. than at 3400 lb., more so than I'm interested in 50% more horsepower. Anyway, I'm looking forward to test-driving one of these days... Suspension would...
  12. 2021 Toyota Supra 2.0 Dyno Results

No, 200 lb. lighter is inherently better because a: more grip (all else equal) and b: less massive "feel" (subjective and not appreciated by all). STrictly going by power/weight, of course it's a lower-performance car. But there *are* benefits other than lower price. Unless you are a...
  13. 2021 Toyota Supra 2.0 Dyno Results

I'm sure I am! Obviously. But it's not the only reason it's a good idea... I don't think this analogy works, at all... If anything this would be a smaller Louis Vuitton bag made in the same place by the same people with the same quality from the same materials. Just less of it for less $$$...
  14. 2021 Toyota Supra 2.0 Dyno Results

I could afford the 3.0, but I'm more interested in the 2.0 because 200 lb. lighter and less nose-heavy. But it's not like expanding sales to those who can't afford the 3.0 is a bad idea anyway, seems like a no-brainer to me.
  15. Toyota GR Supra Races Into 2021 with More Power and First-Ever Four-Cylinder Turbo Model

I track my cars, hard. "Heritage"? Do not care... I am a huge 240Z fan (deeply regret trading mine for LS-engine FD), and I'd *love* a modern Z with even an N.A. 4. I'm more interested in the 4 cylinder Supra than the 6 because 200 lb. lighter weight, surely better weight distribution and...
  16. C&D: Supra vs M2C, 718 Cayman, and GT350

Exactly, it's about more than just performance numbers. A base Cayman is a reasonably light ( or at least not obscenely overweight) fixed-roof mid-engined sports car for semi/almost reasonable $$$, which puts it into consideration for me. The GT4 is 250 lb. heavier. That's kinda disappointing...
  17. B48 4 cylinder Supra will come to US?

You see where I said "FWIW"? I put that in there for a reason... That said they are not *nearly* as far apart as you make them out to be. 14.1 lb/hp vs. 12.1 lb/hp is the major difference. My 2900 lb. BRZ on 245s all around has a tire width/vehicle weight advantage over 3200 lb. Cayman on...
  18. B48 4 cylinder Supra will come to US?

You can have a neutral FF car with 60F/40R weight distribution, and you can have a neutral RR car with 40F/60R weight distribution. Handling balance is not fixed by weight distribution... The ancient 911s that exhibited understeer until you gave a mid-corner lift at which point they...
  19. B48 4 cylinder Supra will come to US?

I hope Toyota marketing appreciates that there are plenty of trackhounds who are interested in the I4 Supra in the U.S.,
  20. B48 4 cylinder Supra will come to US?

For one thing, I-6 Supra isn't quite 50/50. For another, 50/50 isn't "perfect", for a decent power/weight rwd sports car you really want some rear weight bias.
