You newbies always find a way to make me feel old. 😂
I made this video after spending quite a lot of time speaking with the engineers on the project, especially Tada-san. The old heads here will know that we were getting development updates as far back as 2016, and I documented most of the...
Congrats!! It looks beautiful!
Nice to see the strut brace finally too. Seems like the Toyota guys didn't even know what it was gonna look like until now 🤣
Also, the manual transmission is the last thing that Tada-san finalized before retiring. He retired nearly 2 years ago now. This transmission has been testing in prototypes since 2018 (maybe earlier even).
The manual being released now wasn't because of a long R&D process. It was because Toyota...
I'm not sure where you got that information, but it is incorrect.
Attached are the specification releases direct from Toyota and BMW for the Supra, M240i and M3.
As you can see, every ratio is the same.
V160 was an interesting balance. It felt almost industrial. You couldn't call it precise or overly mechanical, but it fell firmly into it's gates with a thud. Plus power shifting a V160 is a breeze. First gear in the V160 is my favorite of all gearboxes because you could hear and feel the entire...
I drove a GR86 immediately before so I had a baseline. Really don't understand how anyone could say it felt mechanical with that car right next it. It's not bad, I'd certainly drive it over an auto, but it's a GS6, and even uses an off the shelf shifter. I'm not sure why people would think it's...
No internal modifications at all. It is a GS6 as it comes, just with a different clutch kit, no sound deadening, and a heavier shift knob. The reason people like it over a standard BMW box is the knob, but if somebody says it doesn't feel anything like a BMW box, they're either lying or haven't...
Yeah, drove it for long while. It's your typical rubbery BMW ZF box. Gates are hard to get into, especially if you're trying to shift quickly. The heavier shift knob makes going between gears a little better than an M240i but overall, same stuff.
But we might have totally different ideas of...
Supras box isn't even in the same galaxy as the 86 box. BMW has never known how to make a shifter sadly.
Also I appreciate everyone telling their life stories of why they like automatic or manual or single speed spaceships, but let's keep this thread about the Manual and it's reviews, thanks.
Agreed on the intake manifold! IATs in this car go sky high after just a couple sessions on a 85+F day. But it is very expensive to replace though!
Question is, how did EGTs get hot enough to destroy your turbo hot side (assuming it wasn't a manufacturing defect). I wonder if the catted DP is...
See Danny, we can agree on something ;). Objective data is useful but subjective crap is what sells cars to drivers IMO. You and I both don't like STi's for the same reason, but I definitely prefer more stability on track, so I'll take neutral understeer vs oversteer. Both can be fast though...
Man y'all really out here thinking that every reviewer is paid when they don't agree with you lmfao. Get out of your echo chambers, there are blue skies outside.
Haven't driven the new Z yet, but I think its pretty much fact that the Supra is disconnected driving experience when compared to...
Jesus guys, what happened here? Thread is now locked. Word of advice for everyone here: Take a fiver and then read your post before you post it. If it sounds like a child having a fit, maybe don't press Post.
@Carl - Driveway Labs when the tune comes out, post a detailed technical outline of...
