Even if it gets a Toyota engine it will be built by an Austrian company from what we have read. It's a bit of a slippery slope. On one hand the Supra's engine is what has and will define the car but at what point does it stop being a Toyota-built sports car when the rest of it is being outsourced.
I hear you but the reality is all sports cars are going this way and the low volume ones will continue to be more and more bastardized. You have companies like GM and Ford co developing transmissions and pretty soon the only way to make any money from them will be to build a sports car together...
Clever. I know they do amazing things to conceal the true shape using foam and padding but the screwing actual panels to the car and using the swirly black and white camo to make it seem like that's the true shape is really going out of their way.
I still have faith just based on the FT1 that...
Despite its dimensions it really doesn't look that much bigger because the design is so tight and overhangs so short.
But it does look like it's from another millennium, which I guess is technically true :)
It just shows it only takes a few changes to turn a beautiful design into a downright cheap looking one.
Let's hope Toyota does a better job tweaking their own concept!
Those are amazing specs even today. Must have blown people away in 2006. Give the new supra 500hp and 0-60 in 3.9 seconds and it will blow people away.
He was just an announcer guy who memorized a script but still he did start off asking who here remembers the legendary Supra and how Toyota wanted to bring that excitement back.
They won't name it FT-1 anyway. The "FT" is reserved only for concepts. And 2000GT is a classic name but too old for lots of people to even know. Supra name is already a legend and makes perfect sense to use.
SO I completely gushed about seeing the FT-1 at the LA show in the other thread but almost as impressive to me was the C7 Corvette Z06 convertible. I always looked at Corvettes as a favorite among the tupee wearing old retired white guy kinda car but this is the first generation Corvette I...
Holy $@#T that's all I have to say and all I kept thinking when I saw the FT-1 for the first time in person at the show on Wed!! :spaz:
I know eeryone says this but it really is even better in person! Easily one of the most popular displays at the show when I was there. And listening to the...
Basically my list exactly, but I'd add some exotic material construction like carbon fiber and lots of aluminum. Also please please keep the active functional trunk spoiler of the concept.
Beautiful! Heading down next Wed. for the show. This is one of the top 5 cars on my list to check out at the show. I noticed there were no interior photos. Can you see the interior at all?
