3m tape

I see a lot of posts talking about attaching things with 3M tape. I couldn't find a definitive thread and after some googling, realised that there seems to be an endless amount of different Automotive 3M tapes. Can people knowledgeable with this stuff please give me a heads-up on which tapes...
