Are stock intakes better than cold air intakes?

Cut a hole in your hood. I can hear all the turboski sounds now, even with oem box.

Sorry, but this car is only supposed to have fake vents :p

I think any of the sealed-box type performance intakes that only get their air through the factory snorkel tube are a slight upgrade over stock. The other ones are a mixed bag when it comes to pulling 'cooler' air than the stock setup.

Pretty much all I care about is performance on tracks that involve your steering wheel, and all of the money I would have put into an intake and a CBE is going into a Wagner IM, catted DP, and a new tune for next year.

Honestly, if you really want to add a "cold air intake" on this car you're looking at a GT4 style intake system.

I couldnā€™t see any aftermarket air box being as efficient as OEM. Before the DEI wrap you couldnā€™t touch the air box after a drive. With the DEI, you can hold your hand on it. This stuff works great at blocking radiant heat.

Working well for me, minus the added snorkel part. Maybe a winter upgrade?

What's the inlet tube to oem airbox setup? Did this gain a little noise while retaining factory box temps?

FTP inlet tube. Honestly, I barely could tell any difference sound wise with that inlet tube plus taking out the airbox resonator. Now with the hood vent, it's much louder.

I've got the full HKS intake... but leave the top off for all the soundz .. temps be damned ..the noises are part of the driving experience :)
But if it doesn't run cause of heat soak, how do the sounds...sound? These cars run hot af

I removed the resonator from the stock air box. I didn't want to leave it open, though, so I capped it with the lid off of a can of spray paint.
I hear no difference.
I also can't seem to find any type of intake system that works better than OEM.
Unfortunately, a lot of the stuff that makes our cars "more cool" hurts performance.
Back in the day, I would see people put blow off valves on their WRXs no matter how poorly they ran. I just can't bring myself to hurt performance to have a car look or sound neat.

That looks really good. Where did you get that specific DEI wrap from?

I've done this before. It's a fun art project. Makes your engine bay look like the Lunar Lander if nothing else. A lot cheaper bling than those aluminum cap covers.

Did you happen to get any numbers on it though? I could get no conclusive results.
