the car is now testing with a manual :)
If the manual is the reason of the delay it is well worth it. Everything that has been quoted recently from Toyoda and Tomoyama has been aimed directly at the fan base to assure us they are car guys, they get it, and this car is the real deal.

(Someone needs to track down pics of Tomoyama’s 600hp Supra)

Let's hope they like what they find.

They just let me down by dropping the 5 speed in the Tacoma that I was going to get, so now I'm just waiting again.

Price should go up if power goes up accordingly... and lap times plummet :p

Or if it goes GT-R hunting :p
These numbers are still FAR off from the GTR. It will be interesting to see how it turns out though, definitely seems like a strong performer.

The sad thing about those 'Ring numbers (GT4 - 7:42) is seeing the new Honda Civic Type R a couple down on the list at 7:43.8.

As time continues on and we are getting more info on drivetrains potential weight etc the rumours are sounding promising: sub 3,000lb curb weight and some configuration of 6 cylinder for the US top spec models with north of 300hp. There hasn't been any recent talk that I can find about transmissions. What do you guys think... will there be a manual option at all or will it be some kind of 7/8 speed auto. If it were automatic only I would be very hesitant to consider purchasing, although one could potentially locate a wrecked z5 and do a manual swap... thoughts??

this has been discussed in numerous threads...early rumors pointed out that it would be a ZF 8 speed, then our insider mentioned they were testing a manual but it sounded like it was not a priority for this project.

...my bet is the Supra will only come with the ZF 8 speed thus Toyota avoids working with Getrag whom they had a falling out with for the MK4 and reliability will probably be for the better. Plus, in my eyes, very few manuals feel as good as the AZ6 derived box developed for the Miata/S2000/FRS-86-BRZ...most modern BMW manuals feel pretty rubbery comparatively..

yep, they tested it, but my understanding is that the manual never made it out of testing.. so, ZF8 here we come lol

You know the minute your delivery arrives, they'll announce a GT3 spec one with manual trans lol
oh yeah... similar story, back in the day my dad brought a 06 CLK500 and bam the 07 got updated with the 350 and 550. i also hope this will be the case with the Z4/Supra in that they get drivetrain updates throughout their life cycle.

I wished that toyota made the new car like the M2 with manual and 2+2 seats but i don't see that happening . I guess now i put my hopes into a new 86 with more power or maybe a new silvia or Z with 2+2 like the 300zx.
