My guess is that the active sound module had an update in the past and those cars that haven't been updated since before that are getting that module wiped, requiring a recode. ?
Wonder if this will fix the stupid useless wireless charger from overheating the crap out of phones. I remember that it's got a cell repeater built in.

Final update for now:
Looks to be a wiring difference in the RLS for HUD/Non-HUD cars, but I can't confirm without access to BMW EWD from Ista. Either way, for HUD-equipped cars looks like the 3 lines going into the RLS are constant +12v, LIN (for CAN), and Ground, so no-go on using the RLS...
It does look like the rain sensor part number changes depending on if the car has a HUD or not, may possibly be a wiring difference?

Dongar's Porsche Keyway 1 adapter works great, but doesn't turn off (acts like constant power). I timed it from when the car was locked, with the keys in and out of the car, cold dash, keys far away from the car, etc... but it's still...
The team at Dongar sent me 2 adapters to try out and see if the power stops after the BCM shuts down. I'll report back in a week or two after I've had a chance to get to it.
