I don’t personally have a ton of knowledge about the B58 as compared to the 2JZ but that makes sense. I think for me it’s fear of the unknown. When you get used to something and a particular expectation whether that’s from an engine, a company, etc, it’s hard to open your eyes to something else...
“while Tada wouldn’t promise to match the tunability of the fourth-gen car—he says its ability to handle four-figure horsepower was more an accidental byproduct of trying to make it reliable than by design—we were told that having a close connection between car and driver is very important to...
That wouldn’t sound implausible - Celica Supra is their roots. I just don’t believe they’re really trying too hard to continue the lineage or continue from where they left off. To me this is feeling more and more like a new car altogether. Not bad for everyone of course but if that’s the case...

“The 2018 Geneva Motor Show finally brought us the long awaited return of the Toyota Supra, sort of. Initials details are scarce, but a roundtable with Toyota engineer Tetsuya Tada — the man behind...
Exactly. Regardless, money talks whether we’re talking about MKIV upgrades or upgrading a potential BMW engine. The Supra game has never been cheap or “easy” in that regard. There’s many years of research and trial and error from performance shops that have gone into the success & aftermarket...
Yes.... I could’ve sworn that’s what he said. As soon as I read “Supra”, I felt much better - checked it a couple times in case I read it wrong.
Gotta admit.... that presentation was mild at best and severely underwhelming. It’s as if the “Supra” was an afterthought. I certainly wasn’t expecting to know details of a production model but to create that much hype around a legend returning and have your presentation car as some ugly hybrid...
...or at least nobody that has owned a Supra before wants a BMW. I hope to God they don't screw this up but I can't help but feel a little pessimistic with all their previous let downs regarding this concept.
I don’t know how I missed this thread until now.... what a find! Alarm is set and ready for the reveal to just get here.
Man it’s been a LONG time since I’ve been this excited about a new car.
All this playing with my emotions Toyota is doing is really irritating. God knows the potential specs aren’t what I wanted but if this MKV isn’t at least the most beautiful car I’ve ever seen, (and let’s face it, the MKIV will be hard to beat), I’m going to be pissed. :banghead: This next week...
.....the wait is coming to an end. I still think they’ll screw this up if it’s really the MKIV’s successor but at least we’ll have more info in March as opposed to waiting until the fall. I really want to love the MKV... whatever it is.
As someone whose husband has a 6spd MKIV and father owns a C7 Z06 with paddle shifters.... a manual is important to me. For lack of a Fast and Furious quote as this will inevitably be compared to that mentality, I like having a real clutch and like actually feeling myself shift/drive. Automatics...
THIS. The two things that initially lost me were the lack of a manual trans and the BMW over-influence... two things I absolutely did not want and would cause my interest to stay within the MKIV market only. That said, you’re completely correct here. It’s difficult to make a cohesive and...
Interesting looking and very reminiscent of current Honda designs. Though I think I'd still stick with the S2K. Spiritual successor maybe, but was the S2K ever really made to "compete" with the Supra? They drive completely different.. two different experiences entirely.
But if they ever want...
I'd personally love to see the day when all the 90s sports cars are reiterated in the modern day but I think the biggest issue (and one that concerns me with the MKV) is that it will just be a rebadge of the name and not continue the same character/soul of the legacy that name left behind. Cars...
New member from Florida & another long time Supra enthusiast. Husband has owned a beautiful hardtop MKIV for over 15 years now. I'd let him divorce me before I'd let him sell it :)
I planned to get one for myself now that I'm in a position to do so but want to wait out the MKV seeing as prices...
