The subwoofers they installed demand a minimum air space of 0.25 cubic feet for a sealed box and 0.75 cubic feet for a ported box. I don’t know how much air each box actually encloses, but there is more than enough volume in those cubbies to satisfy either number.
They installed the amp low enough that it really doesn’t come into contact with the seat at all. Even fully reclined, the seat hits the Cusco brace long before it could touch the amp.
Yessir, enclosures are fiberglass. A local tuning shop did the work for me, I’m not sure where they got the carpeting. I know that most Home Depot’s/Lowe’s sell automotive carpeting in various shades and colors. That’s where I’d look.
The fine folks at Modified Custom and Collision finished up some custom subwoofer boxes for me on Friday. The majority of the boxes are fiberglass with MDF faces. They installed two Rockford Fosgate P3SD4-8 subwoofers and used their 500W amp to power it all. Looks incredible, finished in factory...
I spoke to an engineer at Variant (looking now at the Variant Radon’s) who said they can design the offset to the millimeter for different setups. They’re thinking somewhere between 25 and 28 to run a 275 in the front. Will keep this thread updated for others interested in square setups.
Awesome thanks for the input. Another question, regarding wheel diameter this time. Pros and cons of running 20” vs factory 19”? Or dropping to an 18”? Especially in the looks department. Do you guys running 18” wheels think there’s “too much” rubber on the outside?
I know this is an old thread, but hoping someone can answer a couple of questions. I very rarely (if ever) track this car, and am curious about running a square setup (same size wheel and tire front and rear) in order to rotate them properly. I’d like to maximize tire life without sacrificing...
Honestly I’m not sure. There are some highly rated audio shops in town, I was planning to have them do the majority of the work. Do you have recommendations?
Update for all - I think the Rockford Fosgate P3SD4-8 Shallow Mount 8” subwoofers
Budget is ideally $1500 or less. I think I’m going to proceed with the two RF subs mentioned before with a 500W amp. I’ll keep the forum posted on results either way.
Anyone have any issues after coding the car to always start in sport mode? Sounds awesome on cold start, even with stock exhaust. Just wondered if this puts any additional strain on any components somehow?
MKV Owners:
Have any of you upgraded the factory JBL sound system in the 2020/2021 Supra?
After porting the factory box and adding acoustic foam and dynamat, I am still not pleased with the low range bass response.
I’ve seen many mixed reviews about the performance of the Bavsound Ghost...
