Same here, unless I go to one of many Supra meetups and cars & coffee events. Otherwise, not only do I rarely see a Supra, but when I do it is not a Mikan Blast 45th. At the last meetup I attended, a few owners told me that my car was the first 45th they had seen.
Salted roads can destroy steel fasteners, for sure. When I was working with oceanographic instruments with polyurethane housings, all external fasteners were made of commercial-grade titanium. Stainless steel fasteners would rust in anaerobic areas, like under the bolt heads and washers.

There was a great turnout at Phil's, yesterday. During our pre-lunch mingle in the parking lot, a baffling incident occurred. An SUV was parked in a slot that was in the middle of where we normally park. The owner arrived well before we got there. As we were standing around, the owner walked to...
Well, last Saturday I was told by this dealership's service advisor that the axle seal and installation tools were in, so I took my car in on Monday. Before I brought it in, I typed up a note that reminded the advisor and tech that the sealing surfaces and old seal needed to be examined before...
He's using a strap, which would be difficult on the Supra.
I have 4 or 5 types of oil filter wrenches but no giant sockets. I'll have to buy one in a couple of years.
I have an old and heavy 2 and 1/4 ton Olympia hydraulic jack with 4 mini ramps made fron 6x6 wood planks. These mini ramps get the car high enough to use the steel lift.
Then, if not needing to remove the wheels, I simply slide four Rhino ramps under them.
That doesn't surprise me. When Turo was still young, I had to go to Los Angeles to rent any exotic car (like the McLaren 570S Spider - my first rental), but gradually, San Diego had far more choices. Supras are not always available, but when they are, the rental cost is very reasonable.
Shortly after I joined this forum, I posted a request for a local Supra 3.0 owner to meet me somewhere so I could get a ride in or drive that person's Supra. Thankfully, a member drove out to my house to let me take his car on a good drive. It was only after that when I started seriously...
Right now, there are hybrid sportscars, but they are very expensive. Battery technology would have to improve quite a bit to result in an EV Supra that weighed the same as our Supras and have higher performance.
There may be an EV Helcat at some point, but for the time being, it will be...
Just 6 or 7 years ago, the only Tesla's that I would see in Southern Cali was the Model S sedan. They were rare enough so that they solicited plenty of attention. However, today, every third vehicle I see on the road is a white model 3 or Y. They are like the Camrys and RAV4s of the 90s -...
This post is about parts acquisition while under warranty. Let's focus on that, rather than the diff leak which was discussed in a different post.
But I'll repeat this brief summation only one more time for those who missed previous posts.
1. The Toyota tech(s) correctly identified the source...
Yes, the shop owner described exactly what needed to be done. He said that it's not the part that drives up the cost; it's the labor required to disassemble and reassemble parts. He had done this many times, it seems - just not on Supra. He was looking at my diff with the car on a lift when he...
Send me the $1200 for this, and I'll do that.
By the way, the owner of the Independent BMW service shop told me that replacing the seal is not difficult. A Toyota tech should be able to do the job without issue. It is not rocket science.
He also told me that the job would take him 4 - 6 hours...
