no, they usually add tax based on the zip code on your license. And if you are shipping it to California then you have to do two more things (SMog test and VIN inspection) once the car arrives and send the certificate back to the dealer and they will complete the process. But I pay everything...

Well the dealer dropped the price by almost a 1000 bucks to convince me to make the sale today. So I am starting to believe him.

Yes because I am bringing a vehicle from out of state and require initial registration in california, it requires a smog check. That's what I learnt in the last one hour.

Yes, almost every shipping service had an option of choosing an enclosed trailer. It's definitely an hassle but for me driving is definitely not an option. It's a 2500+ mile drive and I wouldn't want to do that on the first day on a brand new car.
